8 Simple Jacket Sewing Patterns for Spring

It’s that time of year in the UK where the weather is starting to change, the days are getting longer and we are getting glimpses that winter is finally over. The move over from a winter coat to a jumper is a big one, so we have scoured the website to find our top jacket sewing patterns to wear in Spring. When compiling the list we kept in mind that a lot of you like to make things that don’t take weeks to do so we have carefully selected patterns that are simple in cut or construction so you can get cracking and sport your new makes in no time!

Berlin Jacket – Tessuti Patterns

We love the relaxed fit of this Berlin jacket, it’s great for throwing over a dress or jeans, the construction of this sewing pattern is pretty simple and features patch pockets and a turned up cuff. To make this you’ll need a fabric that won’t fray, so something like a boiled wool, ponte or neoprene would work well. We think you could get it all made in an afternoon!

Morris Blazer  – Grainline Studio

The Morris blazer is a house classic, made by many and loved by most! Great features of the jacket include the simple construction as it’s not lined and can be made in a host of fabrics including wools and jersey. Keep in mind that the fabric will really change the look and feel of this, so go for a jersey to get a more casual look or smarten it up with a suiting. Check out the reviews for some more inspiration..

Londres Trench – Orageuse

We love this trench coat from Orageuse, it’s a fantastic design that comes in two lengths. We chose this because it’s got the look of a classic trench but without a lot of the more complicated details making it a simpler sew. It’s not lined and it does up with the belt tie at the front so no fastenings to add either. Fabric-wise, you want something with drape so perhaps a heavyweight crepe of a fine suiting. The shorter version of the coat is a little simpler as there aren’t pockets.

Artemis Coat – I AM PATTERNS

The Artemis jacket from I AM PATTERNS is on the make list at Fold Line HQ.. we will make it one day! We really love it’s relaxed fit and it has some great features and pretty easy construction. The  jacket features in seam pockets at the front and the sleeve and bodice are all one piece, similar to a kimono sleeve. This could also be made up in a a jersey or french terry if you wanted to have it as more of a jumper.

The Sport Luxe Bomber Jacket – The Maker’s Atelier

This chic bomber jacket from The Maker’s Atelier is really on trend and perfect for slinging on when it’s a bit chilly. The pattern features a batwing sleeve so the bodice and sleeve are an all one pattern piece, meaning there is no sleeve to set in – hurrah! This jacket would suit something with a bit of drape like a linen or even a fine suiting, there are also two options for the neckline as well.

Tamarack Jacket – Grainline Studio

We love this jacket and it really is a transitional piece, it’s been made by many! The shape and fit on this jacket are fairly simple and it’s supposed to be a boxy look. The quilted part of the jacket is done before piecing it together and there is a bit of binding to be done as well. There are great tutorials over on the Grainline blogto hold your hand every step of the way. We loved this cropped version below made by Hannah..

Victoria Blazer – By Hand London

She’s an oldy but a goody, the Victoria blazer from By Hand London is a classic shape. The jacket comes in three options – there is a cropped version, normal length and also a sleeveless version. The pattern features in seam pockets and and is designed to be a relaxed fit, with three quarter length sleeves and turn ups. The jacket us fully lined making it slightly trickier but the ladies at By Hand London have a sew-alongif you need a little help.

24022 – Stoff and Stil

This simple coat from Stoff and Stil lies somewhere between a cardigan and a coat. The coat is a relaxed fit with patch pockets and the edge of the coat is bound so there is no lining needed. We think this could be a quick and fun make. There are buttons used to finish the coat but you could easily add a tie at the waist. We’d recommend this in a wool or even a neoprene.
