TOP 10 JUMPSUITS TO SEW FOR SPRING
Kate Underdown

Jumpsuits have secured their place in many makers’ wardrobes as they are a rather clever garment to own. A jumpsuit is an entire outfit. You can forego planning what goes with what, throw on a jumpsuit and some accessories and you are done. There are so many styles of jumpsuits to consider – and so many occasions they could be worn – that we thought it was time we rounded up a selection of indie jumpsuit sewing patterns to peruse. We hope you find your pattern match and join the jumpsuit brigade!

Friday Pattern Company Avenir Jumpsuit  the easy-fitting one

If you are fairly new to sewing and fancy sewing your own jumpsuit, the Friday Pattern Company Avenir Jumpsuit is an excellent choice. With billowy sleeves and wide legs, it’s almost as comfortable as pyjamas… that looks great worn out to dinner! Elastic gathers the neck and waistline for an easy fit and you can choose from long sleeves gathered at the wrist with elastic or short sleeves. I made one for Christmas Day and I can vouch that it was super comfy, but I felt dressed up enough for the occasion!

Sizing: UK 6 – 34

Format: PDF

Named Hali Jumpsuit  the hybrid one

If you are a huge fan of clever pattern cutting and clothes that combine garment types, take a peek at the Named Hali Jumpsuit. The midi-length jumpsuit has an interesting construction that is a hybrid of a dress and a jumpsuit – it’s sewing magic! It features a semi-fitted wrap bodice with a front V-neck and back yoke, wrap tie closure and handy side pockets.

Sizing: UK 6 – 28

Format: Paper (includes the wrap dress version too) and PDF (choose to buy with or without the wrap dress version)

Nina Lee Carmel Jumpsuit  the easy-breezy one

You can see that California agrees with Nina – and we agree that this jumpsuit is effortlessly cool. With a high, relaxed waistline, voluminous legs and gloriously deep pockets, this jumpsuit is perfect for spring through to summer. There is plenty to play with as you have a choice of four bodice variations! I particularly love the V-neck plus curving collar – perfect for anyone who enjoys the statement collar trend. The Nina Lee Carmel Jumpsuit looks as lovely layered with a polo neck for spring as it does with a pair of sandals sipping a cocktail at a beach bar… I can dream!

Sizing: UK 6 – 28

Format: PDF

True Bias Nova Jumpsuit – the knit-fabric lovers one

If you love sewing with knit fabrics, I have the jumpsuit for you! Comfy, cool and perfect for lounging around the house or running errands, the True Bias Nova Jumpsuit is a gem. The pattern features a fully-faced neckline and armholes, a wide elastic waistband and inseam pockets. You can wear lightweight layers underneath when it’s a little cooler and it would look great paired with a jean jacket.

Victory Patterns Rowena Jumpsuit – the elegant one

I love a piece that can easily be dressed up or down and I think this pattern delivers. Wear the Victory Patterns Rowena Jumpsuit with trainers and it’s a cool outfit for brunching in. Style it with heels and a clutch, you are wedding guest ready. The relaxed fit combines a touch of elegance with maximum comfort. The overlapping front and back bodice panels create a V-neckline that’s a particularly pretty feature and the shirred waistband provides a flexible fit and a unique textural element. There are no complicated closures, allowing you to slip right into it!

The Modern Sewing Co. Jesse Jumpsuit – the workwear-inspired one

The Modern Sewing Co. Jesse Jumpsuit is a casual and comfortable style that has a workwear, refined boilersuit feel to it. It creates an outfit that requires no thought when getting dressed in the morning!

Sew Me Something Cleo Jumpsuit  the all-seasons one

I love layering. It’s a great way to get the most out of the pieces you sew across the seasons. The Sew Me Something Cleo Jumpsuit looks great with a tee underneath. This versatile jumpsuit will also be a pretty straightforward sew, making it a great option for confident beginners wanting a add a jumpsuit to their handmade collection. Another design that could easily be worn to a wedding, gathering or with trainers at the weekend, is the Atelier Scämmit Jolie Mome Jumpsuit. It has some really lovely details that are worth further inspection. Like the elasticated at the back and drawstring front that provides shaping at the waist and the two sets of three pleats demark the top of the trousers and follow down to the start of extra wide legs. It is a pretty take on a jumpsuit!
