TRENDING: PULLOVER SWEATERS

TRENDING: PULLOVER SWEATERS
Kate Underdown

Have you spotted that pull-over sweaters keep popping up all over the high street? They are a cool take on a comfy jumper that will update winter and spring outfits with a double dose of warmth. We are always keeping our eyes peeled for trends that translate into sewing patterns and I’ve seen lots of styles featuring a modern half-zip or a half-button placket. The half closure serves as an aesthetic detail, but also means when fastened up you can seal the heat in! They look great in a range of sweater knits, cosy sweatshirt fabrics or warming fleeces (that I’ve seen in lots of fabric shops lately!). Whip one up and wear it until the weather starts to warm!

Here is a selection of pattern options for creating this look, starting with options with half-zip fronts, and then moving into half-button placket designs. Enjoy!

Fibre Mood Didi Pullover

The first one on the list is also my personal sewing list – the Fibre Mood Didi Pullover. This oversized jumper features dropped shoulders and a trendy zip detail. It scores 200% on comfy and has a high wearability factor. This jumper isn’t likely to spend much time in your closet. And Didi is a garment hacker’s dream. Omit the sleeves, and you’ve got an instant, on-trend bodywarmer. That’s right – hack me baby, one more time!

Sizing:UK 6 – 28/30

Wardrobe by Me Half Zipper Sweater

This new releases feels like it’s right on the money with the designs I spotted on the high street. The Wardrobe by Me Half Zipper Sweater is a sporty pullover with a high collar and a zipper from the neck to the chest. The fit is roomy and comfortable with dropped shoulders and set-in sleeves. You can also make this top as a simple sweatshirt. Add contrast bands to the shoulders and sleeves for a cool retro version. There’s also a very similar style men’s style from Wardrobe by Me. It looks great in fleece fabric.

Sizing: UK 4/6 – 24

Bara Studio Nela Zip-Neck Sweater

I’ve been spotting some really cool fleece fabrics arriving in some of my favourite online fabric shops, and have been pondering what I would make with them. I think the brand new Bara Studio Nela Zip-Neck Sweater is perfect. This comfortable zip-neck sweater has an adjustable elasticated hem. The pattern includes options for a standard or cropped length. It’s a dead-ringer for the high street versions I’ve seen.

Sizing: UK 6 – 18/20

Vikisews Lindsey Hoodie

This has to be the coolest on one the list! The Vikisews Lindsey Hoodie is a loose-fitting sweatshirt with a trapeze silhouette. The front features princess seams with internal in-seam pockets, and the back features a shaped yoke. The sweatshirt has a dropped shoulder and long sleeves with cuffs. Lindsey has a tall stand collar with a short centre front closed-end zip. The slightly curved high-low hem has a waistband, and the garment is below hip length. I think you could have some fun using contrasting fabrics, thanks to the princess seams.

Sizing: UK 6 – 20

Format: Paper and PDF

Sinclair Patterns Morgan Half-Zip Pullover and Hoodie

Are you always looking for something warm to pull on before you head out into the cold to walk the dog or run errands? The Sinclair Patterns Morgan Half-zip Hoodie and Pullover has a relaxed fit and the choice of a tall collar or a semi-fitted, fully lined hood with a gusset. Choose regular or longline length, finished with a band or a curved-faced hem. There are options for a zipper guard, welt pockets on the sides and a zippered pocket with a flap.

Sizing: UK 6 – 34 in 3 heights – petite, regular or tall

The Sewing Workshop Fuji Mt. Top

If you like the idea of a more dramatic collar, The Sewing Workshop Fuji Mt. pattern has the wow factor. This oversized top has an asymmetric collar, tapered sleeves and topstitched hems. You can make it in knit fabrics, or wovens, like linen and raw silk for a polished look.

Sizing: UK 8 – 16/18

Style Arc Bert Knit Top

This is my absolute favourite option with buttons, and also something I’d love to make. The Style Arc Bert Knit Top is a comfy and easy-fitting top. It features a dropped shoulder line, deep armhole, polo-style collar and tab, and long sleeves with a slight balloon shape – which I love. The collar, tab, cuffs and hem band can be in ribbing or main fabric. Pair with the Ernie Knit Pant for the full lux lounge set!
