Vanessa Hansen Solvi Jacket

Buy the Solvi Jacket sewing pattern from Vanessa Hansen. This beginner friendly, unlined jacket can be worn as a cardigan or casual blazer. Originally published in TAUKO Magazine Issue No. 4, it was inspired by the traditional Norwegian folk costume the designer’s grandmother used to wear.

Solvi is designed to be made in boiled wool, meaning there is no need to finish the edges – just cut and go! But if you want to make the jacket in other fabrics, there are also lines on the pattern pieces that you can copy to make facings.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Suggested fabrics: For a version without facings (Version A), choose boiled or felted wool or other outerwear fabrics that won’t fray when cut. For a version with facings (Version B), choose a medium weight woven jacket fabric, such as linen or cotton with some drape. Because of the A-line shape of the back, the designer does not recommend using stiff fabrics.

Fabric requirements: 

Version A: 55″ (140 cm) wide fabric: 44.1″ – 68.9″ (112 – 175 cm).

Sizing: 1 – 9 (approx. UK 6 – 32, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Interfacing (Version B only); 6 buttons (they will be non-functional), size 28L or larger // Optional: Solvi is designed to be worn open, but if you want to be able to close your jacket you can add sew-on snaps (size 24L-32L).
