SEW THE TRENDS SPRING: PART 2
Hello and welcome back for part 2 of Sew the Trends Spring. If you missed the first part then go and check it out here. Last week we covered outerwear and tops and now we are onto dresses and bottoms. The video is below talking through the patterns and all the images and links are below.
Dresses:
I have to say I was surprised at the lack of dresses in the shops. It seems there were a lot of occasionwear items but a lot less of a day-to-day dress. I wasn’t sure if this is because people tend to buy these sort of items way ahead of time. So this longer slinky shape dress featured heavily, some with sleeves and some strappy.
I’ve picked out five fantastic options for dresses. For the strappy dress lovers then the Summer dress from Fibre mood is a lovely relaxed fit. For something with a little more detail then the Know Me ME2032 has a lovely strap detail. Then for the version with sleeves there are three to pick from. The Maison Fauve Transat dress with it’s v-neckline. The Fibre Mood Giulia dress which is actually a pretty simple sew. Finally, another Fibre Mood Robyn dress with its interesting tie detail on the waist – go check out the line drawing as this dress is really great.
Bottoms:
Super wide legged trousers are the thing to be wearing this summer. Carried over from winter but they have become bigger in the leg.
First up is the Style Arc Loddon pant, the simplest of the three patterns with an elasticated waist, I’d cut these a little longer than on the model. The Modern Sewing Co. spring trousers have great pleat detailing on the front and I love the wide waistband. Finally the Paradise Patterns Protea that I’ve mentioned in past videos, for their nod to men’s tailoring.
Gathered skirts were something I didn’t expect to see this season but they are such an easy sew that I was happy to include them.
I’ve picked two patterns the first is the Merchant and Mills Mathilde skirt, this has an elasticated waistband so will be super comfortable. If you are looking for something with a structured waistband then the Livia Skirt is a great option.
Next up we have the slinky skirts… these were in last season but you can see that they have got longer so they finish at your ankle for spring.
The two patterns I’ve got for you is the Vikisews Sati skirt, the proportions of this are spot on. The Evie bias skirt from Tessuti is another great option if you like something with a little more flair in the skirt, but you might want to lengthen this slightly.
Next up we have the micro mini skirt… I know sooooo small! Lots of these in the shops in various guises, so it’s time to pull out the fake tan!
I’ve got three patterns that tick a lot of the boxes. Dist we have the Puff and Pencil clueless skirt I love this wrap style. For something more classic then the Bella Loves Dulce skirt would work well. Finally I added the Fibre Mood Marah skirt as it’s got pocket details on the side.
Last but not least the denim skirt is back again so for those of you that didn’t make it last year then it’s time to get stuck in.
We’ve had some great indie releases from the last year so I’ve got three options to share with you. If you don’t like a slit up the front then the Frida Skirt is the one for you. The Style Arc Tommie and the Maker’s Atelier Maxi are both pretty similar but a couple of different details to choose between.
Right so that is it from this season’s Sew the Trends I hope that you’ve found it useful and you are full of ideas for your next sewing adventure.
