QUILTED JACKET PATTERNS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Quilted jackets have secured a spot on sewing lists season after season, so it comes as no surprise to me that one of the top garment searches this month is just that. We rounded up the top 10 quilted jacket patterns earlier this year, so does it warrant another blog post? I am arguing YES, and want to share the quilted jacket patterns you need to know this season.

I've shortlisted some lesser-known quilted jacket sewing patterns that really excite me. Some of the patterns picked include coat, jacket and vest options, others require diving deeper into the listings to find, and a couple are on this year's bestseller list.

If you want to see some of the iconic quilted jacket patterns, be sure to read this top 10 blog post; otherwise, allow me to offer some potentially new-to-you options.

Elle Stitch Sage Jacket

The Sage Jacket is a must-have reversible quilted jacket that gives you three different closure options to play with. Pick the version with ties for a trendy jacket, the button-front option for a classic piece, or the no closure style for an easy win! If you are a confident beginner and want to embark on your first quilted jacket project, pick the no-closure option.

Why we love it: Because you love it! It's in the top 10 bestselling patterns for 2025 so far, so you know it's good!

Sizing: AUS 4 – 24 (approx. UK 6 – 24), drafted for a 160 cm (5'3") height, so it's great for petite makers.

Spaghetti Western Rue Quilt Coat

The Rue Quilt Coat is inspired by nonnas, vintage house coats, workwear, mischief, and mornings you can’t be bothered to get out of bed, so you take the bed with you. It features a retro-inspired collar, dramatic split side hems, and an interior strap for wearing the coat off the body when you're too hot.

Why we love it: Apart from all the beautiful features that we want to sew, we love that there is a mini version for children ages 1 - 12 years.

Sizing: 3XS – 3XL (approx. UK 8 – 38), drafted for a 5'2" (157 cm) tall person, so it is great for petite makers.

Daisy Chain Patterns Liz Quilted Liner Jacket

Liz is a modern take on a vintage military liner jacket. Its streamlined design features overlapping lapels, oversized pockets, and a subtle high-low hem for a slouchy feel. It's perfect for upcycling thrifted quilts or using pre-quilted fabrics. Be sure to have fun and make use of the design sheets for fabric planning.

Why we love it: The HUGE pockets remind me of the ones on the Beyond Nine (fashion brand) Rue Coat.

Sizing: XS – 6X (approx. UK 6 – 38).

Oh Me Oh My Sewing Sage Quilt Coat, Jacket and Vest

New to the Fold Line for 2025, this pattern rocketed to the bestseller list, and we can see why. The 3-in-1 Sage pattern includes options to sew a coat with an oversized fit and button closure, a jacket with a standard fit and tie closure, and a vest with a standard fit, tie closure and cropped length. If you are thinking of making more than one type of quilted outerwear, this pattern is a must.

Why we love it: This 3-in-1 PDF pattern is excellent value at £8!

Sizing: 00 – 26 (approx. UK 6/8 – 30/32).

Sew Liberated Retazo Coat and Vest

If you want to jump in feet first and embrace the craft and up-skilling opportunity that sewing a quilted jacket can bring, this is an excellent option. Using the quilt-as-you-go method, each panel is pieced and quilted individually, then cut out and assembled into the coat or vest. Or you can use a thrifted quilt or pre-quilted fabric instead. It's not just the pieced quilt that makes this pattern so unique; the curved collar and princess seams at the front and back aren't found on many other designs.

Why we love it: The choose your own sewing adventure element. Whether you go for a unique pieced coat or use a pre-quilted fabric, it's bound to be a stunner.

Sizing: US 0 – 34 (approx. UK 6/8 – 32/34), drafted for a height of 5'5" (165 cm) and a dressmaker's cup size C.

Matchy Matchy Homebody Quilted Jacket

Matchy Matchy always deliver the goods when it comes to creative patterns, so the Homebody pattern is sitting right at the top of our list. It has been thoughtfully designed with enough space within the sleeves to allow you to layer over a mid-weight jumper, which is a big plus for me.

What's more, you have two pattern options, one is constructed by piecing together quilted sections, creating visual interest with seams in the middle, and the other is seamless. You could sew two completely different quilted jackets, because why stop at one!

Why we love it: View B gives you seamless pattern pieces for a traditional quilted jacket feel. No quilting experience is needed – you will learn the skills to create an heirloom-quality jacket.

Sizing: XXS – 6XL (approx. UK 6 – 38)

Merchant & Mills Sanda Coat or Jacket

When you search for quilted jackets, this pattern might not be one of the top hits, but it is a gem. After falling down the hashtag rabbit hole on Instagram, Sanda secured her place on this list. If you are keen on sewing a cotton quilted jacket, this is a fine choice. The rolled collar, turn back cuffs, and patch pockets look great in quilting, and the oversized fit will make it really comfy to wear.

Why we love it: The fact that you can use the pattern to make a wool coat that looks completely different.

Sizing: UK 6 – 18 or UK 18 – 28.

Fabric Godmother Arbre Coat

Whether you have never made a coat before or you have made several, you are going to want to make an Arbre. The easy, comfortable fit has been designed to be worn with layers underneath. What's more, the clever raglan sleeves are made in two pieces to allow for movement and shaping. The variety of fabrics that work for Arbre means you won't stop at one. From boiled wool to quilted fabrics to denim to fleece, whatever speaks to you, speaks to Arbre! We eyed up the quilted coat sample and the Knit + Stitch show and unanimously decided it was our favourite.

Why we love it: It's such a versatile pattern. The fabric you chose totally informs the overall look, so you can sew it multiple times.

Sizing: UK 6 – 30, drafted for a height of 167 cm (5'6") with a B or D cup.

Vivian Shao Chen Daphne Jacket

Now, you are really going to have to go deep into the archive to find this fit-for-quilted-fabric pattern. It's easy to scroll on by as the cover image is made from a wool fabric, but it is perfect for quilted fabric. Designed as an outerwear style that anyone, including confident beginners, can make – the Daphne Jacket is a great spring project. The inside looks just as good as the outside and vintage blankets can be utilised to make a unique piece.

Why we love it: Without intimidating elements like a collar, buttonholes and lining, this is a great project for novice makers.

Sizing: 1 - 15 (approx. UK 6 – 34).

Puff and Pencil Luna Vest & Kite Sleeve

I'll end this lovely list with yet another hidden gem you might not know of. This pattern delivers voluminous sleeves on a chic, polished base. It has an oversized fit and can be made with or without sleeves - giving greater versatility - and it closes with snap fastenings so there are no buttonholes or zips to fuss with.

Why we love it: Those sleeves!

Sizing: XXS – XXL (approx. UK 6 – 22/24).
