Buy the Daphne Jacket sewing pattern from Vivian Shao Chen. Daphne is an unlined shawl collar jacket with an open front. The bodice is oversized and boxy. There are two patch pocket options: a square pocket and one with a slanted opening. A phone pocket peeks out from under one of the patch pockets for convenience.

This pattern was designed as an outerwear style that anyone, including confident beginners, can make, without intimidating elements like a collar, buttonholes and lining. The pattern is also meant for using old wool blankets and quilts. The simplicity of the pattern does not require a lot of cutting so you can retain all the original charm of that vintage piece.

There are two views included in the pattern. View A is a longer, below-hip jacket. View B is a cropped jacket. The pockets are interchangeable. Instructions for a lined version are also included.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

– PDF (available to download immediately after purchase). What is a PDF?

– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Suggested fabrics: The Daphne Jacket pattern is designed for woven fabrics. It works best for heavyweight fabrics that are finished on both sides. Examples are wool coating, boiled wool, tweed, flannel, double-faced fabrics, and quilted fabrics. Keep in mind that the jacket is unlined, so the "wrong" side of the fabric becomes the "right" side of the collar lapel.

Fabric requirements: Note you may need more yardage if you are working with graphic prints and wish to pattern match. You may need more yardage if you choose to lengthen the jacket bodice or sleeves.

View A: 56″ (142 cm) wide fabric: 1.75 - 3.25 yd (1.6 - 3 m) // 44″ (112 cm) wide fabric: 2.5 - 3.75 yd (2.3 - 3.4 m) // Bias tape: 3.8 - 5.4 yd (3.5 - 4.9 m).

View B: 56″ (142 cm) wide fabric: 1.25 - 2.75 yd (1.1 - 2.5 m) // 44″ (112 cm) wide fabric: 2 - 3.25 yd (1.8 - 3 m) // Bias tape: 3.5 - 5 yd (3.2 - 4.6 m).

Sizing: 1 - 15 (approx. UK 6 – 34, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Bias tape (1.25" (32 mm) wide unfolded) is only required if you choose to finish your seams with bias binding. The result is a fully reversible jacket with beautifully finished seams.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; US letter/A4 print-at-home pattern (33 pages); US copy shop pattern (36" x 100"); A0 copy shop pattern (3 sheets) // Layers: Yes // Projector file: No.
