It’s time for your weekly dose of The Edit: New Sewing Pattern Releases. This blog and vlog highlight some of the new arrivals to hit the shop this week. Kate natters about all the details you need to know so if you’re a pattern nerd like we are, this is for you!
Fibre Mood edition 28 has dropped and is brimming with projects for spring/summer. With pleats, ties, tiers and poofy sleeves in abundance, detail-oriented sewers will love this issue. With plenty of projects included – 12 sewing patterns to be precise – it’s a great buy.
We’ve just unpacked a big box of new things from The Assembly Line that are great for any modern dressers who appreciate clean lines and lust over the Cos shop window.
- The Balloon Sleeve Dress – a stunning piece with beautiful sleeves that combines a fitted bodice with puffy sleeves to balance proportions. You can also sew it with simple sleeves or make it sleeveless.
- The Billow Blouse – an easy and speedy voluminous blouse that looks great tucked in or out of trousers and jeans.
- The Barrel Leg Trousers – a cool barrel-leg, dropped crotch pair of trousers. The pattern includes three options for the back (regular, curvy, and straight), ensuring a comfortable fit for different body shapes.
- The Unisex Wrap Collar Shirt – an interesting wrap-around collar shirt that is designed to be unisex and suits many body shapes
The new I AM Patterns collection is pretty drool-worthy. The first piece of the 3-pattern capsule is the Valérie Jumpsuit, Dress and Top. A sewing pattern that gives you bang for your buck, Valérie combines simplicity and comfort with a contemporary look. This easy-to-sew pattern gives you four options to work with – a dress, cami top, playsuit or jumpsuit. You could even sew a faux jumpsuit by combining the cami top with the Harmonie Trousers.
Trouser patterns are trending and this pattern ticks several of the cool boxes. The Harmonie Trousers feature a wide leg that can be sewn as regular, cropped or long length and are shaped with gorgeous front pleats. The short view can be made as shorts, turn-up shorts, and knee-length culottes. All options have chic Italian pockets at the front and patch pockets at the back so they are pretty practical too.
Aimé is a hugely versatile piece that is based on menswear shirt and is actually a unisex pattern so can be sewn for any gender. You can Mix and match options to create a whopping 384 different versions! The design incorporates all the features you’d expect from a classic men’s shirt – the button placket on the left, tower placket at the cuff, and shirt collar – whilst adapting to more feminine styles with three additional lengths, a slim collar, and a slimmer sleeve. I particularly love how you can sew a quilted jacket and beach overshirt from the same pattern.
This fun bag has abundant pockets, making it easy to separate your things into easy-to-find spots. The Sew Liberated L’Oeuf Bag is a whimsically egg-shaped crossbody style full of practical details – such as the adjustable webbing strap and double zipper pull. The outer and lining each require less than half a metre of fabric so you can splurge on something special. It would also be a lovely pattern to sew as a special gift.
