CAPSULE WARDROBE: EASY SUMMER HOLIDAY MAKES

CAPSULE WARDROBE: EASY SUMMER HOLIDAY MAKES
Louise Carmichael

Do you have a summer holiday on the horizon and are still planning on sewing an entire suitcase of things to wear? Why do we do it to ourselves?! Well, I am here to help you find projects that will help you pack light, while being dressed head-to-toe in me-made style.

Whether you need to sew an extra piece or two or just fancy inspiration for what to wear on your summer getaway, you'll hopefully find something in this capsule wardrobe. I have picked eight sewing patterns that are easy to sew... you heard me, easy to sew... and are also very easy to wear together. Whether you are a beginner or just need some speedy projects, this is a great selection to choose from.

Let's meet the patterns:

So what's so great about these eight sewing patterns? I'll tell you...

  1. Notches Billy Top + Dress : This pattern gives you bang for your buck. With 40 ways you could sew Billy, it's the only top pattern you really need for a getaway. The fact that you can make if from woven or knit fabrics means you can easily sew daytime and dressy pieces from just one pattern. And you can make dresses too... need I say more?
  2. Sew Liberated Chanterelle Pants + Shorts: Our most popular trouser pattern of the moment is a great choice for holiday wear. You can pick from wide-legged full-length trousers, playfully pleated barrel-leg pants or sweet shorts. They are all easy fitting thanks to the elasticated waist and have a number of details that give them a little polish.
  3. Helen's Closet Moss Jacket: A lightweight cover-up is essential for keeping yourself protected from the sun's rays and I think this is a great option. The cropped view would be a stylish evening throw-on and the longline version is perfect for throwing on while lounging at the beach or pool.
  4. Friday Pattern Company Saturday Skirt Set: This co-ord slots into the capsule with ease. Worn together it's ideal for dinners under the stars, while the skirt is really useful for pairing with a t-shirt in the daytime. Wear the top with wide-leg trousers for a chic ensemble and or tied over a dress for shoulder coverage. With no fastenings to sew, it's a quick and easy make.
  5. Chalk and Notch Marcel Dress and Tank: You cannot go wrong with a flowy dress on holiday and this one is a beauty. You can sew the dress as a mini or midi style and the tank can be easily styled for day or night.
  6. Made My Wardrobe Freya Swimsuit: Sewing a swimsuit is one of the most pleasing things you can do and I've picked an easy one for our capsule. This  low back swimsuit provides full bust support and coverage. You can either make it with a triangular cut out at the front or as a complete one piece.
  7. Dhurata Davies Patterns Kulmi Bag: You'll need a throw-everything-in beach bag, I think this is a great option. Kulmi features intriguing construction details such as large gusset triangles that cleverly double as exterior pockets on both the front and back. Best of all, it is made entirely from fabric, requiring no zips, hardware, or additional notions, and that means it's easy peasy.
  8. Fibre Mood Nousha Bag: A 'hands free' bag is as must for any summer holiday... you'll need them for ice creams and souvenir shopping! This trendy bag is pretty straight forward to sew and will be the most useful thing you pack in your case.
