Suggested fabrics: Light- to medium-weight woven fabric that has no stretch. The drape or hand of the fabric will impact the look of the final garment - softer fabrics will fall more gently, and more stable fabrics will emphasise the leg shaping. Some wonderful choices are chambray, viscose-linen slub, sandwashed linen or cotton, ikat, Brussels washer linen, light twill (like Ventana twill), or Essex cotton-linen blend. Recommended fabrics are opaque and range in weight from 4.8 oz to 7.9 oz (155-268 gsm).

Fabric requirements:

View A: 45″ (115 cm) wide fabric*: 3 - 4 yd (2.9 - 3.7 m) // 54″ (137 cm) wide fabric: 3 - 3.25 yd (2.9 - 3 m).

View B: 45″ (115 cm) wide fabric*: 2.75 - 3 yd (2.6 - 2.9 m) // 54″ (137 cm) wide fabric: 2.5 - 2.75 yd (2.3 -2.6 m).

View C: 45″ (115 cm) wide fabric*: 1.5 - 1.8 yd (1.4 - 1.7 m) // 54″ (137 cm) wide fabric: 1.25 - 2 yd (1.2 - 1.9 m).

*Sizes 12-34 for View A and sizes 18-34 for Views B and C are single layer layout only for 45" (115 cm) wide fabric.

Sizing: US 0 – 34 (approx. UK 6/8 – 32/34, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

The pattern is drafted for a height of 5’5″ (165 cm).

Notions: 1/4 yd (0.25 m) of lightweight fusible interfacing, either woven or non-woven (based on width of 20"/0.5 m) or 1 yd/m of 1" wide fusible interfacing tape; 2" wide soft waistband elastic, 1 yd (0.9 m) for sizes 0-16 or 1 1/2 yd (1.4 m) for sizes 18-34 // Optional: card stock or light cardboard for pocket pressing guides.

Sew Liberated Chanterelle Pants and Shorts

I am not in the habit of leaving reviews (lack of confidence) but I really find other people's reviews really useful when I am contemplating a new project or I see a pattern I like so I have decided to put on big girl pants and hopefully this will inspire someone.
Recently returned to sewing after more than 30 years absence so not a beginner but relearning sewing skills. These pants were a joy to make and wear, I made view B (barrel legs) not sure if the would suit me but they did (I'm a curvy slight over weight 57 year old). made them out of linen and they hang beautifully, bonus is they are definitely secret PJs.

waistband a bit loose

VERY comfortable. I slightly chickened out and sized down, but fitted fine. Instructions good, easy to follow. I'd never used a cardboard template to make curved pockets before but it was easy enough. Another time I'd like to make the pocket facings and the cuffs in a contrast fabric. The waistband ended up a bit loose so inserted a draw string.

Enjoyable make

These trousers were a really enjoyable make and I’m very happy with the finished result. I made View B out of linen which works well with the style. Looking at the measurements I thought the rise would be too short so I did make a toile, as recommended, but the fit was pretty good straight off. I did lower the crotch by 1cm just to be on the safe side but I probably didn’t actually need to do this. The instructions were clear and easy to follow throughout. This would be a good pattern for anyone who hasn’t tried sewing trousers before as the elasticated waist makes fitting much simpler. Very happy with my stylish new trousers!

Sew liberated to wear

The Chanterelle pants are an absolute winner! Sewing instructions very clear. The big pockets and the fit is perfect! Am I going to make more than one pair! Definitely!

I’d recently hand dyed some linen with golden rod flowers and I wanted the perfect barrel leg trousers pattern to sew it with. I was really drawn to the pockets and waistband as I love a chunky elasticated waist.
These were an absolute breeze to sew, the instructions are amazing with so much information and clear steps to follow.

The fit is great and they are so very comfortable, I love how big the pockets are, I can fit so much into them.
Overall I think this is an excellent pattern and I will happily be making it again.
