Top 10 Sewing Patterns

2023’s Most Popular Sewing Patterns

I have just been snooping at this year’s most popular patterns to decide on what to sew next. There is a sheep mentality to my sewing, if everyone is making something I’m instantly more drawn to making it. If you wanted to know which have been this year’s most popular sewing patterns, then you are in luck. We’d love to know how many of these you already own or are any of them currently on your make list?

We also thought it might be fun to offer a discount on these patterns so you can grab all of them with 10% off until the 17th September (at midnight UK time) with the code: 2023MUSTHAVES

Paper Theory – Zadie Jumpsuit

The Zadie Jumpsuit from Paper Theory is an unstoppable beast! Loved by many many people this pattern is a winner – we’ve even done a deep dive into your love for it. Its wide legs and intersting wrap feature make it the ultimate comfortable one-piece. Be warned you’ll be sewing more than one of these!

Donny – Friday Pattern Company

This pullover boxy shirt has caught the attention of many of you for good reason. We love that this pattern features all the details we love in a shirt but with a simple construction. The camp-style collar, the lack of darts, and the pop-over style have no fastenings. Crucially you’re not getting into an argument with your buttonholer.. we’ve all been there.

True Bias – Ogden Cami

You cannot beat a good basic item in your wardrobe and this timeless piece is one you’ll wear year on year. The Ogden cami ticks a lot of boxes, it’s a simple sew, and if you are a beginner you can totally make this. For a more advanced sewer then this won’t take you long. There are endless hacks that you can do with this pattern to make it your own.

Anna Allen  – Anthea Blouse

We love the simplicity of the shape of this blouse, the buttons down the front and all the focus going on ‘those’ sleeves. This really is an  item you are going to reach for again and again. It’s also available in a dress option so you can sew the perfect simple summer shirt dress. Win win!

Kielo Wrap – Named Clothing

The OG of the indie sewing pattern world. The pattern is interesting, with two large front and back pieces and long ties that make up this pattern. Simply wrap the ties around you and you’re done. This pattern is designed to be made in jersey but it has also been made many many times in woven fabrics and works just as well! It’s simple construction and dramatic shape, make it a firm favourite with you all.

Heyday Dungarees – Waves & Wild

The perfect beginner dungaree pattern with a seam down the center front patch pockets on the legs and bib.  There are also multiple ways you can add a tie to the straps depending on your preference.

Peony Dress – Fabric Godmother

I can see why this dress has been so popular, it’s a classic shape with intersting details including the subtle puff sleeve and frill on the sleeves and or skirt. The dress has darts at the bust and waist, designed to be fitted but not too fitted and must be made in something floaty.

Pomona Pants – Anna Allen

These trousers have made it onto my make list. With their statement elasticated waist, they are designed to be high-waisted and interestingly they don’t have a side seam. Choose from two cuts on the leg shape or make them into shorts for the summer.

Vetiver Top – French Navy

A pretty top that you can throw on with jeans? It’s no surprise this pattern was such a hit! The French Navy Vetiver Top has a bodice that is gently shaped by princess seams, resulting in a silhouette that’s comfortable yet feminine and can be dressed up or down depending on your fabric choice.

Patina Blouse – Friday Pattern Company

If you love a collar detail then make sure you go and have a look at the Patina blouse. It’s such a versatile piece for your wardrobe, wear it to work or thrown over jeans.

Olivia Blouse – Atleier Jupe

Another fantastic pop-over blouse, this one features a row of gathering that is sewn into the grandad style collar. There is gathering on the sleeve that is sewn into the cuff and an option to make this into a dress.

Harlow Shirt – Tessuti

This has to be one of my personal favourites of the year. Wear this done up as a shirt or open as a layering piece. Instantly this item can be worn in loads of ways making it something really versatile for your wardrobe. Don’t forget to check out the pocket detail too

Remy Raglan – Sew House Seven

We love this simple woven top as there is so much you can do with it. It’s essentially a woven t-shirt and long sleeved top with raglan sleeves. Everyone has gone mad for it.  Don’t forget to check out the expansion pack with the dreamy sleeves…

Protea Pants – Paradise Patterns

These high-waisted trousers have been really popular because of the two different cuts on the leg, making them almost look like two different patterns. There is a tailored look with pleats at the front with wide legs, or a more simplified straight cut option to choose from.

Saltwater Slip – Friday Pattern Company

This is a fantastic option if you are looking for a simple summer slip dress. It also comes with adjustable straps and looks great worn over a top or on its own.
