DESIGNERS TO DISCOVER IN 2024

DESIGNERS TO DISCOVER IN 2024
Kate Underdown

We added a bunch of wonderful new designers to the shop in 2023. We love championing indie pattern designers and bringing you fresh new patterns to sew, so we wanted to round up some of the additions you might have missed.

You may recognise some of them, or you may be discovering a brand-new-to-you gem! They all have some wonderfully individual qualities in their patterns. We hope you’ll enjoy scrolling through some of their designs and that you discover something new today!

The Maker’s Atelier patterns are effortless, unfussy and incredibly stylish. They capture modern dressing perfectly and are great pieces for those who want to sew a timeless, grown-up wardrobe.

Designer, Frances says; “When creating my patterns, I take key shapes, influenced by current fashion trends, and refine them into pared-back, wearable styles. I believe that the simplest shapes – in the right fabrics – make the most successful clothes.” On-trend and easy-to-wear… it’s a winning combo. Try the Big Easy Top for a chic warm layer or pick the bestselling V-neck Shift Dress.

Sizing varies by design: UK 4 – 20 / UK 8 – 16/18

Matchy Matchy patterns are great. The approachable designs are cut to look as great in mix-and-match scraps as they do a solid piece of fabric. They are handy for using up the odd bits of fabric you carefully save but never do anything with. The fun designs are intended to be things you will want to wear again and again. From complete beginners to advanced sewists, Matchy Matchy Sewing Club aim to make the sewing process as enjoyable as the final product!

Try the bestselling Collage Gather Top or the unique Quilt Scarf Bundle to sew something a little different.

Sizing: UK 6 – 38

Founded by Ann Sofie as a result of the pandemic, Puff and Pencil brings us sleek, modern designs free of jargon that are approachable to all sewing levels. The designs are current and trendy with a casual edge that makes them wearable.

With no difficult techniques like zips, linings and darts, the patterns are ideal for new sewists and those of us who like to keep projects stress-free. Try the bestselling Tie Waist Blouse or the Barbour-esq Luna Vest + Box Sleeve.
Sizing: XXS – XXL (approx. UK 6 – 22/24)
Silversaga was founded by vintage lover, Jessica Silversaga who has a passion for collecting and mending 1900s to 1940s clothes. This love for vintage can be felt in the romantic sensibility of her patterns. Jessica says “I have always felt passionate about by the quality of vintage and how they could be handed down through generations.”
They are projects that you will sew and treasure for years to come (and maybe even hand them down one day!). Jessica even shares her top tips for caring for garments to make them last. Try the romantic Juliette Dress or the dreamy Ella Dress.
Sizing: EU 34 – 48 (approx. UK 6/8 – 22)

We love finding new and exciting designers and Veronica Tucker has some fresh designs. After growing uncomfortable with her fast-fashion design job, Veronica set up her own label that has an emphasis on slow fashion, puff sleeves and gorgeous details. You’ll spot that many of the designs look lovely in linen, so if you have some in your stash you might want to give these patterns a look!

Try the Freya Dress and Blouse with its darling sleeves or the Frankie Bag that will finish any outfit off.
Sizing: Varies by design with most being a UK 6 – 24

Madswick patterns are packed with pretty, whimsical and unique details that you need to take a closer look at. Founded by Madeline Southwick, Madswick aims to create high-quality patterns with thoughtful construction that results in a timeless piece you will cherish. If you are looking to flex your creative sewing muscles, this is a great designer to do that with.

Try the Raida Blouse with its pretty circular yoke and optional ruffle or the Jordan Overalls with their feminine twist on dungarees.

Sizing: UK 6/8 – 30

This designer will make you (and the Fold Line team) want to become a bag maker. Founded by Ellie Lum, Klum House patterns teaches makers to achieve professional results on a home sewing machine. Ellie has over twenty years of professional bag-making experience, so you are in safe hands.

If you want to challenge your sewing skills this year, a bag is a great project to sink your teeth into. Can’t make your mind up on which style of bag to make? Try the Belmont Pack and Pouch as this clever bag converts from tote to backpack and can be tucked away inside the matching zipper pouch for easy carrying. Genius!
