Hey, there sewing pals! It’s time for your weekly dose of THE EDIT: NEW SEWING PATTERN RELEASES. This brand new blog and vlog highlights some of the new arrivals to hit the shop this week. Kate natters about all the details you need to know so if you’re a pattern nerd like we are, this is for you!
If you like a little company while you sew and want to keep up with the hot releases in the sewing world, you might want to hit subscribe and never miss a thing.
We are thrilled to bits to announce that we have added a brand new indie designer to the site. Introducing The Modern Sewing Co, a collection of designs that will help you produce well-made garments that you can live in and wear day in and day out. The Modern Sewing Co was founded by London-based Hetty who pivoted when the pandemic hit from selling fully made clothes to selling patterns for people to sew their own clothes at home.
The designs are thoroughly modern with simple silhouettes and delightful details that are asking for you to put your own stamp on them with a choice of fabrication and notions. We are so happy to have them in our shop for you to browse! Here are a few of our faves to get you started…
Celia is a classic, long-length shirt dress with a collar, lapels, two-piece sleeves and an optional tie belt. The dress is fitted on the shoulders and features an A-line cut with plenty of room for comfort and movement.
These are the ultimate everyday trousers and the perfect alternative to jeans all year round. The Worker Trousers fit snugly around the lower waist, with a slight balloon in the leg for volume and comfort, before tapering in at the ankle.
This classic workwear jacket provides the perfect extra layer. The dropped shoulder and square cut make the whole garment feel roomy and comfortable, and this casual feel is balanced out with classic shirt details.
The Cara Top is a simple summer blouse that is flexible enough to wear in a wafty muslin at the beach or in a smarter silk as part of a wedding two-piece. The cut features a square officer collar, small bust dart and gentle A-line silhouette.
We’ve got an exciting new sewing pattern designer to share with you whose tagline – “modern sewing patterns for a summer state of mind” is exactly where we want to be right now. Paradise Patterns was founded by Sanna, a designer and pattern maker based in Hawaii who knows a thing or two about dressing for sunny weather! The modern, cool and flowy designs have been popping up on Instagram a lot lately, so here they are for you to peruse!
Paradise Patterns Smultron Dress is a fun, voluminous design that’s easy to adapt to different lengths and works with an impressive variety of fabrics. You can mix and match the details to sew your perfect summer dress!
Paradise Patterns Hallon Dress has been a real hit with the sewers of Instagram. This swingy dress is just perfect for summer. You get two views with this pattern, the first has a very relaxed fit, ruffled hem and a back that sits low and loose. The second has a straighter fit and sits closer to your back, with modern side seam slits.
Paradise Patterns Plumeria Top features a relaxed fit, designed to feel effortlessly cool. It has a low front and peekaboo detail on both versions. Its lovely lace-up detail looks great worn on its own, but would look good layered over a top or even a dress!
Paradise Patterns Blomma Tank is a style we’ve seen on the high street for a couple of summer seasons now. The pattern comes with two cup size options: a B cup, and a D cup with darts and the pattern also has tips on how to change the neckline and/or armhole, as well as the width of the bindings.
You can purchase the Paradise Patterns PDFs on their own or add our copy shop service and we will print the pattern and pop it in the post for you, complete with a free envelope to store it in!
Women’s pattern sizing: UK 6/8 – 32
Designed for movement and rest, the Friday Pattern Company Elysian Bodysuit is the soft layer you’ll want to reach for every day. This long sleeve bodysuit features a scoop neckline, curved seaming under the chest, and two cuff options. The style lines make it perfect for mixing and matching colours and prints.
We are VERY excited about this new release! Introducing Victory Patterns Rowena Jumpsuit and Pants – a casual and easy-to-sew style that features a spot of shirring at the waist.
Here’s what we love about this pattern:
- The jumpsuit features grown-on sleeves and the front bodice has two released pleats at the bust, and a tie secures the back
- The sweeping wide-leg pants can be made in a full or cropped length.
- Both views feature slash side pockets and a shirred waistband that provides a flexible fit and a unique textural element
- There are no complicated closures, allowing you to slip right into both styles
We think the jumpsuit would be a lovely pattern to wear to a summer wedding or have a special event to attend.
Sizing: UK 6/8 – 18 or UK 16 – 32
Wrap styles are pretty popular in the shop so we think you are going to like this pattern! Meet the Ready To Sew Pleat Asymmetrical Pants, a design inspired by the traditional pants worn by Thai fishermen, but with a modern silhouette.
Pleat is an ideal pattern for motivated beginners as it has no side seams and is made up of only three pattern pieces if you choose to leave the front pocket off.
And if that wasn’t enough excitement for one week, Ready to Sew has launched a children’s collection! These adorable designs are mini versions of the adult patterns, so you can sew matching outfits if you have a little one!
Sizing: Ages 4 – 10 years
