Buy the Pleat Asymmetrical Pants sewing pattern from Ready to Sew. Inspired by the traditional pants worn by Thai fisherman but with a modern silhouette, Pleat is the perfect summer pattern, being both airy and comfortable. It is a straight-legged, high-waisted (sitting right below the belly button) pant with a slightly cropped leg. It can be sewn with or without a front pocket. Pleat is an ideal pattern for motivated beginners as it has no side seams and is made up of only three pattern pieces (for the view without pockets).

Tip: By cutting pattern piece A twice, you can also make a pair of simple elastic waist pants without the front wrap detail.

A matching children’s version is available here.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

– PDF (available to download immediately after purchase). What is a PDF?

– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). Choose sizes 32-46 or sizes 46-58. What is Copy Shop?

Note if purchasing copy shop printing: Some of the pattern pieces have been split (to fit on the A0 sheets) and will need to be joined together.

Suggested fabrics: Light to medium weight fabric (120-180 g/m2) such as cotton poplin, linen, ramie or hemp, batik, light denim. Avoid very fluid fabrics such as tencel and rayon.

Fabric requirements:

Range 1 (sizes 32-46): 140 cm wide fabric: V1, 220 cm // V2, 220 cm.

Range 2 (sizes 46-52): 140 cm wide fabric: V1, 250 cm // V2, 300 cm.

Range 2 (sizes 53-58): 160 cm wide fabric: V1, 250 cm // V2, 300 cm.

Note: For size 53 and above, you will need to choose a fabric that is at least 160 cm wide if you wish to follow the original cutting layout. However, if your fabric has a similar warp and weft, you can switch the pattern pieces so they are arranged on the crossgrain and use fabrics that are 140 cm wide.

Sizing: EU 32 – 46 and EU 46 – 58 (approx. UK 6/8 – 14/16 and UK 18 – 30, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart. The designer recommends you choose your size based on your hip measurement.

Note: The size ranges have been drafted from different blocks. Range 1 (32-46) is based on a height of 167 cm and a B cup. Range 2 (46-58) is based on a height of 168 cm and a D cup.

Notions: Range 1: 3 or 4 cm wide knit elastic long enough for your waist // Range 2: 4 cm wide knit elastic long enough for your waist.
