Buy the Celia Dress sewing pattern from The Modern Sewing Co. Celia is a classic, long length shirt dress with a collar, lapels, two-piece sleeves and an optional tie belt. The dress is fitted on the shoulders and features an A-line cut with plenty of room for comfort and movement.

Celia can be made in a wide variety of fabrics to suit different occasions and times of the year. Cottons and linens work very well for summer, while light wool suiting could be used for a warmer winter dress. Some fabrics will elevate the piece to feel like a very smart dress, while a more casual fabric will result in a garment that feels more relaxed and easy.

– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Note if purchasing copy shop printing: Some of the pattern pieces are divided across two A0 sheets and will need to be joined.

Suggested fabrics: Linen/cotton, denim (light or medium weight), needlecord, brushed cotton, lightweight wool.

Fabric requirements: 

150 cm wide fabric: Sizes 4 – 12, 260 cm // Sizes 14 – 20, 280 cm // Sizes 22 – 28, 320 cm.

110 cm wide fabric: Sizes 4 – 12, 320 cm // Sizes 14 – 20, 370 cm // Sizes 22 – 28, 440 cm.

Sizing: UK 4 – 28 (approx. UK 4/6 – 26, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

This pattern is drafted for a height of 5’8″ and a cup size ‘C’.

Notions: 7 buttons, roughly 1.5 cm diameter; 1 m of mid/lightweight iron-on fusing // Optional: If you’d prefer to use lighter weight pocketing (rather than self fabric) you’ll need a 40 cm x 100 cm strip.
