Sew Reporter – 6th March

Happy Sunday folks! We have made it to March which means spring sewing projects are pushing to the top of the to-do list. If you are looking for spring sewing inspiration we might just have designs for you. We are thrilled to share that Named has launched a new collection of patterns. This capsule includes five lovely designs that are perfect for making right now. We can also share we have a new member of the team who we are very happy to welcome into the Fold Line family!

We hope that you have a wonderful end to the week, whatever you have planned 🙂

The Anthea Blouse and Dress has been an incredibly popular pattern in the sewing community. Many makers have fallen in love with these marvellous sleeves, myself included… several times over! If you have a copy of this pattern or are thinking about adding it to your projects list, you might want to check out this dreamy hack tutorial. Anna takes you through how to create a scoop neckline, ruffles and shirred elastic puffed sleeves! It is definitely going on my sewing list!

Sometimes you stumble upon a make that is so breathtaking you just need to take a closer look. Swetha’s Cortney Dress hack (pattern by Marsha Style) did just this, and we can tell you that the blog post is well worth a look. Swetha says “If you love yourself some awesome sleeves don’t look any further. This is the pattern you have been waiting for“. Check out Swetha’s blog – Hemline Eclectic and see more wonderful makes on Instagram @the.hemline.eclectic.

We’ve been waiting to see one of these pop up in our reviews and this make does not disappoint! Penny made this wonderful Durban Jumpsuit by Megan Nielsen and said “I am beyond pleased with my finished garment“. Penny’s youngest daughter has asked to try it on which means this me-made better stay under lock and key! We have to say, we’d like to pinch it too!

We’ve added some rather lovely new styles to the shop for you to peruse including the Ivo Pants by Melilot that deserves a closer look (the pockets are AMAZING!) and a great new pattern from Sew Liberated.

Do you already have a specific design in mind? Or do you need some help finding the perfect pattern for your fabric? You can search all the patterns in our database using our newly updated sewing-specific search tool.

Can you believe it is March already?! We are back with our monthly roundup of new sewing pattern releases from your favourite indie designers. If you are looking for a bit of inspiration for your next sewing adventure we are here to help. Kate will take you through some of her favourites in this video!

We enjoyed this article on the Guardian website this week about Sofi Thanhauser’s book: Worn: A People’s History of Clothing. The article gives you a flavour of what sounds like a very interesting read.

Exciting news! We have a brand new member of the Fold Line family! Say hello to Mel who is joining us as our customer service assistant. Mel is an avid maker and has an incredible wealth of knowledge when it comes to sewing! We are so happy to have Mel on the team and we must admit that we envy her handmade wardrobe. Follow Mel on Instagram @stitch_make_bake for loads of lovely makes!

Each month we will be making a donation from our profits to a different charity. This month we have chosen to donate to the Red Cross Ukraine Crisis Appeal. As the security situation allows, the Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) will continue to respond to existing and emerging humanitarian needs. Donations help with essentials such as food, shelter and medicines.

Come and join our sewing Facebook group where we are chatting about sewing plans, new patterns and helping each other out with projects.
