SEW THE TRENDS 26: AUTUMN: PART 1
Welcome back to another instalment of Sew the Trends. As the seasons change, we hit the high street to check out this season's hottest trends. We research the best patterns so you can sew great pieces for your wardrobe.
This is a two-parter, so make sure you pop back next week to catch the second batch.
First things first... as a Brit, I cannot resist talking about the weather. It's been extremely hot this summer, and that's led to a very warm September. This has affected the shops; many had sales on, and winter wool coats were few and far between.
Right, let's get on with it, shall we? The video goes into lots more detail, but this has the images if you wanted a closer look.
Prints:

It was nice to see a bit more pattern this season; in particular, checks have been very popular. Quite a lot of browns like the Barbour and M&S above, but also some tartans too.

The spot is also back, especially in the Whistles top with the distorted print; it's quite small-scale and subtle.
Fabrics:

I have to say the fabrics weren't that exciting this season. The great thing is, there are lots of natural fabrics like cotton and silk. One fabric that has made an appearance is satin. Perfect for adding some texture into your wardrobe.

Pleather was also a big hitter this season, particularly in the outerwear department.

Right, let's talk colour, shall we? After doing lots of research into colour and all the fashion articles citing Cadbury's purple as this season's hottest colour... I can confirm this really hasn't filtered down to the high street. It's a hard colour to wear!
Lots of lovely hues this season; lots of things you own already probably tick a lot of these boxes.
Outerwear:

I've called this look the 90s leather jacket as I used to own one: boxy shape, a funnel neckline and big pockets.

I've got two great options here for you, both very similar but with slightly different pockets, and the Tobie is a zip-up:

I loved this cocoon-shaped coat, and I've seen quite a few sculpted shapes like this with that curved sleeve.

As soon as I saw it, I thought of the Closet Core Phoebe coat. This is great, as it comes in short and long options so that you can choose your preference.

You can't beat a tailored coat, classic shape that will never go out of style. As shops played it safe this season, this style popped up a lot.

Luckily we have two fab options here. The Bara Studio Selma coat is fab if you want something a little less fitted and a more casual edge. The Fibre Mood Hunter is a classic that I have loved for many seasons!

The cropped coat is a great wardrobe staple; it looks great with lots of different styles, and if you love a barrel leg (more on that later), this is a match made in heaven.

Two fantastic options for you: first up is the Bella Loves Patterns Kaia with interesting details and a simple look. The Atelier Brunette Veste is great if you prefer bigger statement pockets.

I loved this style: a cropped double-breasted coat with a nod to the trench, made in wool or suede. Again, a classic, timeless piece for your wardrobe.

Two fantastic options for you: either the Vogue 2053, a fantastic tailored piece. The other option, if you prefer a trench, is the Grainline Cortland. This might need to be slightly shortened, and you could leave off the storm flap on the front.

The dress research is a little sad, if I'm honest. This style was the only consistent shape I saw across the shops. Lots of dressy party dresses, but not many day dresses. Don't get me wrong, lots of shops did have dresses in store, but I couldn't see a consistent style from multiple shops. The upside is you can wear anything you like!

If you love this simple dress shape then we have three fantastic options for you, all with slightly different details. The Puff and Pencil Wavy dress is the simplest of the three. The Notches Moriko has some ruching down one side and the Paradise Patterns Honeygirl tee has slits in the side seams using this expansion pack.
Right that is all from me this week make sure you pop back next week for part 2...
