Most Popular New Pattern Releases of 2021

January is the time of year for reflection and seeing what has been so we have been nosing at which 2021 indie pattern releases have been the most popular with you all. We were so intrigued to see what made it into the top ten and to remind ourselves of how many fab indie patterns we intended to make, but will be moving to our 2022 sewing list!

Marlo Sweater by True Bias

It’s quite hard to miss just how popular the Marlo Sweater by True Bias was in 2021… it’s been on most sewists to-do list! This oversized cardigan has a dropped shoulder, deep V-neck, wide bands, large buttons and patch pockets. You can make it cropped or to hit around the mid-thigh.

Agnes Pyjama Set by Paper Theory

There was a new PJ pattern on the block, and it’s no surprise to us that it was so popular with you all! The Agnes Pyjama Set by Paper Theory Patterns comes with a choice of shorts or trousers with an elasticated waist. The top has grown on sleeves, patch pockets and a loose fit.

Anthea Blouse and Dress by Anna Allen

This pattern definitely took Instagram by storm with over 1,000 uses of the hashtag for the blouse alone! With stunning puff sleeves, bias binding on the neckline and curved hem detail, the Anthea Blouse and Dress by Anna Allen stole the sewist’s hearts.

Patina Blouse by Friday Pattern Company

Reynolds Top and Dress by Helen’s Closet

With its clean and elegant lines, the Reynolds Top and Dress by Helen’s Closet proved a popular choice with the gang. Reynolds features wide shoulder straps, bust darts, in-seam pockets, and a side slit with mitred corners at the hem. This is a pull-on-overhead design with shaping in the side and back seams.

ZW Gather Dress by Birgitta Helmersson

We were very excited to add Birgitta Helmersson’s patterns to the shop in 2021 and see what zero waste sewing is all about. You loved the Gather Dress pattern, an oversized dress with a dropped shoulder, gathered skirt, side pockets and full-length button placket with buttons and buttonholes.

Davenport Dress by Friday Pattern Company

Delightful details were popular in 2021 and the Davenport Dress by Friday Pattern Company has bucketloads of them! It features full sleeves with an elastic ruffle hem as well as a shoulder flutter detail. The hem hits above the knee. The front neckline is gathered in with elastic, and the waist features a drawstring so this dress can be pulled on and off without any closures.

Vali Dress and Top by Pattern Fantastique

As we said, big sleeves were mighty popular in 2021 and the Vali Dress and Top by Pattern Fantastique didn’t go unnoticed! This classic 70s style glam smock has a high neckline is surrounded by sleeve and yoke gathers. Volumes of fabric, fine ties, topstitched facings and pocket bags will transform the simplest of materials into a romantic, textured and detailed dress or top.

September Coat by Merchant and Mills

There was something about the September Coat by Merchant and Mills that captured your hearts (and ours!). This oversized coat can be made lined or unlined in a number of heavier weight fabrics (we’ve seen some gorgeous ones in cord!). It’s a make you will treasure for many years to come.

Pauline Dress by Closet Core Patterns
