The Fall then Rise of the Rise and Fall Turtlenecks

A review of Papercut Patterns Rise and Fall Turtlenecks

I decided to get some winter pink into my wardrobe and make the Fall version of the Papercut Patterns Rise and Fall turtleneck again. Last time, I made the size 2, but I had to cut the finished top into three from shoulder to hem and add some strips of fabric to get the fit across the shoulders. It’s amazing what you learn in a year of sewing; for this pink version, I cut a size 4, but it still didn’t fit across the shoulder.  I recognised I needed a broad shoulder adjustment this time, et voilà!  I also lengthened the bodice by 2 inches (I’m 5’9″) to make it more tuck-in-able.

I’ve made the slim-fitting Rise version, too. I used ribbing, and it didn’t turn out so well. Surprisingly, the size 2 in this style came up quite big across the shoulders, and the bodice was longer than expected; I found it sat just below my upper hip.  I plan to hack the pattern to make a dress at some point.

Technically, this is a straightforward pattern to sew, with clear instructions and pictures; it’s good for a beginner or someone new to jersey sewing, but just be mindful of the sizing.
