TRENDING: GILETS

Are you starting to feel the chill? I certainly am and there is one must-have piece on my sewing list. Should I share it with you?

Gilets are all over the high street this season, and we are in luck as we have plenty of patterns to pick from to make our own warming (and styling) piece. If you only sew one thing this season, you won't regret choosing a gilet.

An instant outfit updater, a gilet is a practical and trendy piece for the winter months. I've been browsing the high street's offerings and have pulled together six key styles to help you decide which gilet-gal you are.

I've shortlisted the gilet/waistcoat/vest patterns and matched them with some of the best styles on the high street for inspiration. All you need to decide is whether you are a leopard print lover, outdoorsy type or after maximum warmth.

If you want to sew the biggest gilet trend, the borg/teddy/fleece look is for you. Found in cream, ecru and beige tones, it's a neutral piece that can be styled over anything from a dress to a jumper.

What about a piece you can throw on in the mornings for the school run, dog walk, or daily errands? This lot would also fit the bill for any outdoorsy types... I assume there are some fellow gardeners in the house?

Have you been pondering how to add the season's hottest print to your wardrobe? A leopard print gilet will inject the trend into your outfit without dominating it. You could even add just a pinch with a print pocket!

You can give this practical piece a feminine edge by opting for a floral fabric. It will become an instant heirloom and looks great worn over a white shirt.

A padded gilet is like a portable heater that doesn't require plugging in. You can throw on top of whatever you are wearing to stay cosy.

The goes-with-everything option is to choose a trusty denim fabric to make your gilet. It is a really easy styling option that will make every outfit that bit trendier.

So, what do you think? Will you be sewing a gilet this winter? If you do, be sure to leave a review so we can see what you've made! Each review gets you 100 points as part of our loyalty rewards scheme that gives you £1 towards your next project!
