Find that Pattern: The Pursuit of Love

It’s time for another find my pattern and we had so many requests for this one! The Pursuit of Love is one of my favourite books and one I have read many many times. When I saw that it was being made into a TV series I was so excited and it didn’t disappoint, with a stellar cast, wonderful costumes and lots of humour. If you haven’t watched it yet,  it’s available to watch on Amazon as well as the BBC.

There is a video chatting through all the patterns featured as well as links to them all below. Enjoy!

Patterns Featured:

A fantastic scene in the programme where their next-door neighbour comes to a party with a group of ‘bright young things’ dressed up to the nines. We absolutely loved Lord Merlin’s spotty loungewear, I now want to turn up to all parties wearing this ensemble. The pattern that we thought would be perfect for this is the Itch to Stitch Pine Cove pyjamas, the shape is perfect now all we need to do is find some spotty silk to make them in!

Another fabulous spot of nightwear that Linda wore on her return from Paris. Who wouldn’t want to lounge around the house in this rather wonderful outfit.  For those of you wanting to add a little glamour to your pj situation, then we have got two great options for you. The slip, we thought that the Maya cami from Papercut Patterns was almost perfect. Finally for the robe we chose the Japanese Haori from Folkwear.

This party dress from Linda’s wild days in London. oozed glamour. Having spent a long time looking I think we found a fantastic option.  The Vogue 1627 designed by Zhandra Rhodes has the feel of Linda’s dress. You’d need to make a few tweaks but it has the same feel!

This super party dress that Linda wears felt like an iconic look from the show. Having done quite a bit of research we thought that the Elizabeth gown from Named Clothing, would be a good option.

We loved this summer dress with the flutter sleeve, and thought that the  London dress from Selkie patterns had a lot of similar features. We particularly love the keyhole tie detail at the front of the dress.

Quite frankly who doesn’t want to try and recreate this fabulous coat that Linda wore with the fur collar? We thought that Simplicity 8059 would work really well to try and recreate this.

There were a lot of jackets, in lovely rusty tweeds. This one worn by Fanny was a favourite. We thought that that the Spring Safari Jacket sewing pattern from You Made My Day Patterns was a great starting point. You’d want to make this a little more fitted but the details are almost spot on.

There were lots of pussy-bow blouses seen thought the programme and the Sew Over It pussy bow blouse would be perfect for recreating this look. You may want to make the tie a little wider but apart from that it’s spot on!

Beautiful blouses had a lot of air time on the show and we have two fantastic pattern for you – both from the same designer! The first is the  Honey top from Fibre Mood to create the frilly collar version. The second I thought was a good, all-round vintage shape, the Elisa Blouse from Fibre Mood.
