TRENDING: BATTLE OF THE BOWS

Have you noticed bows popping up everywhere on the high street? I certainly have, and it's pretty much all I can think about. From dresses to tops to accessories, this trend is taking the fashion world by storm. If you want to hop on the bow bandwagon and add a touch of whimsy to your wardrobe, we've got you covered with some of the best sewing patterns to help you sew this trend yourself.

Bows are a timeless and versatile embellishment that can add a touch of femininity and playfulness to any outfit. Whether you prefer a subtle bow detail or a statement bow piece, there are endless ways to incorporate this trend into your style. But why buy when you can DIY? Here is my best in bows...

Fabric Godmother Fleur Dress and Blouse

My favourite, and most popular on the list, you cannot go wrong if you sew Fleur. You may have seen these flooding your feed as the make of the season, so if you want to jump on the bow-wagon, this is a great place to start.

The playful bow ties and gathered peplum or skirt add an element of fun, while a secret placket stops you showing more than you might want to between the bows - that's handy!

Tilly and the Buttons Nell Dress and Blouse

Simple to sew, the mix ‘n’ match Nell pattern includes four blouse and dress options and four sleeve styles to choose from – that will keep you quiet! The on-trend tie opening featuring faux bow ties with hidden snaps is spot on for this 'bowtiful' trend. You will just have to decide if you want to up the whismy level with puffball sleeves or dial it back with plain ones.

Puff and Pencil – Tie Blouse, Lantern Sleeve and Peggy Collar

Fancy sewing your own take on the viral Ganni blouse? This pattern is a great dupe with the addition of a cute collar and the sleeves make it a little more wearable if you aren’t a fan of puff sleeves.

You can be make it with or without sleeves and with or without a collar. This version comes with cool lantern sleeves. If you want an even simpler tie front style, check out the Tie Blouse & Lantern Sleeve or simpler still is the Tie Blouse and the Cone Sleeve.

Matchy Matchy Sewing Club Ruffle Brunch Set

What about bows at bedtime? From bed, brunch and beyond, this sweet set is pretty versatile. The Ruffle Brunch Set is a fresh and playful on-trend top and bottom duo that can be worn as a full outfit or fun separates.

It's a great pattern as you get multiple options to play with and the top features princess seams which can be helpful for fitting.

Makyla Creates Camille Top

This pattern was way ahead of the curve as it has been out for some time now. The cropped, loose-fitting top features two functional ties at the centre front and has no other closures making it easy and speedy to sew. The bottoms of the sleeves are shirred to create beautiful full volume and you can buy three additional sleeve options with the Camille Top Sleeve Expansion Pack.

Play designer with a bounty of options and bows to boot! Porter is a low waisted dress or waist length top with four bodice and four sleeve options. All the dresses or tops can be sleeved or sleeveless and you can choose buttons, buttons and loops, or ties for the front opening. As we are talking bows, I assume you won't skip them off!

Sew Over It Maeve Blouse

This sweet blouse has optional dainty rouleau bows down the front that give my Bridgerton vibes. The Maeve Blouse bodice fastens down the front and includes a button shield to provide full coverage whether you go for buttons or bows. It's the perfect combo of smart and sweet!

Puff and Pencil Crossover Dress & Cone Sleeve

Bows don't have to be cute. They can be pretty cool, so my final pattern is for the minimalists who don't favour frilly touches. This versatile and stylish wrap dress features a single tie on the inner layer and a silhouette-shaped outer layer.

It has three ties on the outer layer which can be adjusted to create the perfect fit for you, making it easy to fit and adjust day-to-day. Make those sleek bows standout with a contrasting fabric just like the example. Oh, and you can make it sleeveless too and layer things underneath in the cooler months.
