THE EDIT: TRANS-SEASONAL SEWING

THE EDIT: TRANS-SEASONAL SEWING
Kate Underdown

Happy Sunday Foldliners! Is anyone else feeling a seasonal shift in the air? I must admit, I am well and truly ready to sink my teeth into sewing autumnal garments. We’ve been having a think about what to sew right now for this in-between-the-seasons weather. If you want to indulge in a spot trans-seasonal sewing, our pattern short list might inspire your next make.

We are offering a whopping 15% off all the patterns featured on the 4-5th September with the code: SUMMERSOUT (expires at midnight on the 5th). From the 6-10th September, you can get 10% off all the patterns with the code: AUTUMNISHERE (expires at midnight on the 10th). We hope this might help kick start your autumn sewing. Check out our video where Kate talks through all of our pattern picks in more detail and you can find links below!

Tran-seasonal Dresses

There’s nothing better than an autumn-friendly dress that can easily be styled with tights and light layers if the day is a little cooler, and worn with bare legs and no jacket when the sun decides to shine! Here are four of our faves:

  1. Merchant and Mills Etta Dress
  2. The Assembly Line Cuff Dress
  3. Sew Liberated Hinterland Dress
  4. Marilla Walker Belemnite Dress

Trans-seasonal Tops:

You can never have too many trusty tops. If you fancy slotting a new garment into your collection, we think this selection is perfect for making right now. Whether you love a cool collar, crisp linen top, oversized vibes or pretty puff sleeves, you can’t go wrong with one of these patterns.

  1. Anna Allen Anthea Blouse and Dress
  2. Friday Pattern Company Patina Blouse
  3. Tessuti Fabrics Myka Top
  4. Paper Theory Block Tee

We couldn’t talk about trans-seasonal sewing without mentioning the sewing community favourite – the True Bias Marlo Sweater. This pattern is almost impossible to make just once (I speak from experience!) and is a fairly quick sew, so it’s a satisfying addition to your pattern collection.

Trans-Seasonal Bottoms:

Whether you are after a quick sewing project or something that will see slow and steady progress, adding some new bottoms to your handmade wardrobe can be very useful. We also swear by dungarees during this in-between weather and beyond. They will love almost every layer you pair them with!

  1. Sew House Seven Free Range Slacks
  2. The Modern Sewing Co. Worker Trousers
  3. Merchant and Mills Harlene Dungarees
  4. Merchant and Mills Harlene Hardware

Trans-Seasonal Jackets

There is just nothing quite like indulging in sewing a jacket. It’s a garment you will happily invest a little more time in as it is something that should last you years. Whether you pick a quilted jacket, casual-cool blazers, wear-with-everything waistcoat, or throw-it-on overcoat, you will be super proud that you made it yourself!

  1. Grainline Studio Tamarack Jacket
  2. Friday Pattern Company Heather Blazer
  3. New Craft House Everyday Waistcoat
  4. Merchant and Mills September Coat
  5. Hovea Jacket & Coat
