ALL ABOUT THE NOTIONS: DENIM HARDWARE

Do you love denim? Personally, I cannot get enough of the stuff. Hardwearing, yet comfortable enough for daily wear, this cloth is also a joy to sew (and press!). One of the things that makes denim so special is all the finishing touches that are synonymous with it. Rivets, jeans buttons, and topstitching are all must-haves for denim's iconic style.

Sewing your own jeans, jackets, dungarees, pinafore dresses, and denim skirts allows you to choose any wash and topstitch colour you fancy. But what about that iconic denim hardware? How do you source all those lovely bits and bobs that are just so? We've added the Kylie & The Machine denim hardware kits to the shop to end that epic quest.

We've summarised what you get with each kit and suggested some patterns that work with them to get you started. Pleasingly, the kits have a QR code you can scan for a tutorial on how to use each kit (a good idea before you get that hammer out!). If you fancy seeing Kate talking through what you can find inside, head over to this Instagram reel.

Dungarees have secured their spot in many modern wardrobes. An outfit's main event, you can dress them up with a collared shirt or down with a Breton tee. They are so versatile and really useful to sew.

This kit includes all the hardware you need to make a pair of dungarees. Choose between three metal finishes: aged brass, pewter, or aged copper. Inside the kit, you'll find buckles and sliders, as well as buttons to complete the side fastenings that dungarees usually have.

There are no tools included in this product. You will need an anvil and button setter (included in the Hardware Tool Kit, sold separately) plus a hammer.

  1. Closet Core Patterns Jenny Overalls/Trousers
  2. French Navy Huxley Dungarees
  3. True Bias Riley Overalls
  4. Fibre Mood Dagney Dress (asks for 40mm buckles, so you might need to trim 2mm off the pattern/straps to fit)
  5. Atelier Jupe Elsie Dungarees

Jeans jackets have become an essential item in any modern wardrobe. Sourcing the right denim buttons to complete the authentic look can make or break your project. So, we have stocked the fab KATM jacket kits. Use them for a jean jacket make, or for a shacket you want to give a utility feel. They also complement cord jackets beautifully for a retro feel.

The Denim Jacket Hardware Kit contains the buttons required to complete your dream denim jacket project! Choose between three metal finishes: aged brass, pewter, or matte black.

You might feel like the quest for sourcing the right bits to sew a cracking pair of jeans is a step too far. But these kits include the bits you need for button-fly jeans, rivets and all! If you fancy sewing a pair of jeans with a zip fly, we stock those too.

The KATM auto-locking jeans zipper comes in two lengths, 15cm and 19cm. As a rough guide, 15 cm is a good length for men's and women's low-mid rise jeans, and for some women's smaller sizes of high-waisted jeans.  For most high-waisted jeans in most sizes, 19cm is advisable. An extra top stop per zipper, so if you need to shorten your zipper, you can do this at home. We have the zips in navy, black and light blue.
