THE EDIT: NEW SEWING PATTERN RELEASES - 5 JULY

It’s time for your weekly dose of The Edit: New Sewing Pattern Releases. This blog and vlog highlight some of the new arrivals to hit the shop this week. Kate natters about all the details you need to know, so if you’re a pattern nerd like we are, this is for you!

This week, I'll be flicking through a summery new edition of Fibre Mood magazine, sharing a dreamy pattern that will make you fall in love with box pleats, and the minimalists' summer dress of choice.

Fibre Mood Magazine Edition 39

Edition 39 has 12 patterns and style variations for elegant, trendy and comfortable items for your summer wardrobe! Patterns are included for dresses, tops, trousers, shorts and a bag.

Madswick Camille Chemise

Camille is a modernised chemise-style dress or blouse with a wide square neckline, puff sleeves, and special details like box pleats and gathers around the bust, underarm, and sleeves. It doesn't have any closures like buttons or zips, so it is easy to pull on and off.

Merchant & Mills Sommer Dress

In need of a simple summer dress for sunny days and holidays? Sommer is one part minimalist with its narrow straps and concealed side zip. The horizontal bust dart gives it an unexpected twist that elevates the design.

Sew Over It Farley Shacket

The perfect combination of a shirt and a jacket, the Farley Shacket is a great transitional layering piece. The design is slightly oversized and features buttons down the front and on the cuffs, a classic collar with a half-moon collar stand, and a panelled body. Clever double-entry pockets are built into the front seams: keep your hands warm on the outside and your belongings safe on the inside.

Sew Over It Headscarf

A great project for beginners or those wanting a quick, satisfying make. This headscarf has a wide panel across the head, long ties for a beautiful detail, and a hidden covered elastic section to keep it fitting snugly whilst you're wearing it.

Selvedge Magazine Issue 131: Flow

Selvedge is a stunning magazine that dives into stories and inspiration from the wonderful world of textiles. This issue explores water and its profound entanglement with textiles.

Elle Stitch Calla Shirt

Searching for a breezy shirt to style all summer long? Calla is your classic oversized shirt pattern with a twist - a gathered yoke that simply floats behind you! It features a collar and collar stand, short sleeves, back yoke, and gathers along the back. It also looks great styled open over a vest top.

Wardrobe by Me June Top and Dress

The June pattern is a rather versatile design. Sew summer day dresses and tops as well as evening-appropriate pieces, thanks to the chic stand collar. It features a relaxed A-line silhouette and a back keyhole opening.

Dhurata Davies Rea Top

The Rea Top is an oversized, easy-to-wear top with a soft boat neckline, grown-on half sleeves, and a deep hem. Simple and quick to sew, the Rea Top is perfect for beginners – yet with optional French seams and a pleated cuff trim to try, there's plenty of room to push your skills a little further too.

Dhurata Davies Men's Hugo Boxers

The Hugo Boxers are a relaxed pair of men's woven boxer shorts with an elasticated waist. They feature a classic front fly with an optional button closure and a shaped back with a centre panel for a better fit. Finished with flat-felled seams throughout, they are neat, durable, and a great introduction to this classic technique.

Dhurata Davies Tia Skirt

The Tia Skirt is a relaxed two-tier skirt with an elasticated waist and in-seam pockets, available in two lengths – a floaty midi or a fun mini. Simple enough for beginners, satisfying enough for experienced makers, the Tia Skirt is a versatile wardrobe staple that pairs effortlessly with any top from a crisp shirt to a cosy sweater – an easy skirt you'll reach for again and again.

I hope that's left you brimming with inspiration! Enjoy browsing the newest sewing pattern releases.

The dart rotation featured in Merchant & Mills’ Sommer dress is indeed used rarely these days. The only one I remember is a very fitted top with these center front darts, neckline princess seams, sweetheart neckline and long(ish) sleeves in one of the Burda Style magazine issues in 2025.
