THE EDIT: NEW SEWING PATTERN RELEASES – 1 OCTOBER
Mel Forrest

Happy Sunday Fold Liners! It’s time for your weekly dose of The Edit: New Sewing Pattern Releases. This blog and vlog highlight some of the new arrivals to hit the shop this week. Kate natters about all the details you need to know so if you’re a pattern nerd like we are, this is for you!

If you like a little company while you sew and want to keep up with the hot releases.  You might want to hit subscribe and never miss a thing.

Oh boy, this is good! Merchant and Mills have nailed it again with their latest offering – the Sanda Coat or Jacket. I can’t decide whether I love the jacket with its patch pockets or the coat with its generous in-seam pockets more! The oversized shape provides plenty of space for a jumper and that rolled collar is a really chic detail.

Is it too early to mention the C word? I’ll whisper it… Christmas is coming! In the sewing world that means the much-anticipated seasonal delight from Kylie & the Machine has been revealed and we are in love with this year’s offering. The festive bauble holiday gift boxes are filled with new woven label designs, a limited edition mini label gauge, and a limited edition enamel pin. The pink and blue baubles hold different goodies inside, so the hard part is picking which one you want to hang on your tree!

The bauble pre-orders are expected to ship the baubles in mid-October – so you will be all ready to get festive!

Quilting is here to stay and this pattern is packed with options that allow you to choose the combination that you love the most. The Camimade Coquillage Quilted Jacket is a pretty perfect pattern. The wrap shape will literally cloak you in warmth and you can choose to cinch the shape in a little with some elastic. I love it!

Denim midi skirts are a must-have of the season and sewing your own will help you perfect your denim stitching skills without the trickiness of fitting jeans. The Juliana Martejevs Frida Skirt is spot on for nailing this trend. The side seam high slit can be closed lower down if you prefer. The pattern comes with instructions in German and English with a link to a step-by-step video tutorial (in German with English subtitles).

Simple doesn’t mean boring and the In the Folds Sawtell Dress is a sophisticated wardrobe staple with a range of interesting details that make it far from simple. The fabric you pick can really transform the use of this pattern – in a lightweight fabric, it’s the perfect summer cover-up and a heavier fabric makes it a great piece for styling with a turtleneck and tights to take you through autumn and winter. The pockets are inset for an eye-catching design feature and a new technique for you to learn.

If you fancy adding a new top to your autumn/winter wardrobe, I think this is a brilliant option. The In the Fold Sawtell Top features a range of interesting details that you can choose from. Sew it in different fabrics to achieve a completely different look. I love the inset placket with pleats and bust darts and the back yoke and box pleat add extra interest on the reverse of this lovely little top.

Searching for a smart project for this season? What about the Itch to Stitch Cantabria Dress? This sophisticated sleeveless trench dress could be a great piece for layering with long-sleeved tops and cardigans this autumn.  The front and back princess seams are a great feature to help you achieve a good fit. I reckon you’d be pretty proud of making this pattern!
