EASY SPRING SEWING PATTERNS

EASY SPRING SEWING PATTERNS
The evenings are getting lighter, the mornings are becoming more bearable - all of this signals spring is on the horizon. Being a child of spring myself, this season is possibly when I am at my most optimistic, creative and energetic. As sewers, spring and autumn bring about the biggest weather shifts so it tends to be when we spend the most time at our beloved sewing machines.
If you want to ease yourself into spring sewing with a simple project, I've outlined 10 patterns that are perfect for spring. From easy to sew dresses, to transitional layers to simple yet special tops, I have an easy sewing project for everyone.
If you have a soft spot for sleeves, this is the pattern you didn't know you needed. Notches Odell is a playful yet beginner-friendly top or short dress featuring striking puff sleeves - no gathers needed, just cleverly shaped seams. I am particularly fond of the deep scoop in the back. It's a subtle yet striking detail. I'm sure you have something in your fabric stash just waiting to turned into an Odell!
Sizing: EU 34 - 56 (approx. UK 6 - 28)
I've seen a lot of this style of pinafore popping up on the high street, so it's a trendy yet timeless project to add to your spring sewing list. Choose between a deep V-neckline and a square neckline and layer Margo over your favourite turtleneck or tee for a carefree outfit of the day! Tammy Handmade is particularly good at designing beginner-friendly sewing patterns, so if you like Margo, give the others a browse!
Sizing: UK 6 - 32
Spring can be a little changeable, so a stylish jacket is a must. Ideally, one that can double up as an alternative to a cardigan when you want to be a little warmer indoors, as well as a lightweight jacket when the milder days require it.
I chose the Flynn jacket for this edit as it is stunningly stylish for an easy sewing pattern. It's a project that you will enjoy taking your time over, as all seams are finished with bias binding for a beautiful and high-end finish. You can also sew a sleeveless vest version, so you get two designs in one.
Sizing: A - J (approx. UK 6 - 24)
There's no questioning that this pattern is dreamy. Daydream features a billowy silhouette, square neckline and elbow-length puff sleeves with sweet ties. If you fancy trying a new method of sewing, this low-waste pattern will intrigue you.
Cris Wood's patterns are made up using only squares and rectangles. In this way, each pattern piece can be sized to your specific and unique measurements – without paper pattern pieces. There is nothing to print, cut or tape. The piece shapes are drawn directly onto your fabric, and the layouts maximise fabric usage.
Sizing: Custom sizing. The size of each pattern piece is calculated by putting your own unique measurements into a simple formula.
If you are fairly new to sewing and fancy sewing your own jumpsuit, the Avenir Jumpsuit is an excellent choice. With billowy sleeves and wide legs, it’s almost as comfortable as pyjamas, yet looks good enough to wear out to dinner!
Elastic gathers the neck and waistline for an easy fit and you can choose from long sleeves gathered at the wrist with elastic or short sleeves. Opting for a jumpsuit means your outfit is pretty much taken care of with one piece - it's the fuss-free way to dress! You can style Avenir with a warming yet trendy gilet over the top when it is still feeling blooming cold.
Sizing: UK 6 – 34
This smart number would be a great addition to your spring wardrobe. It's the perfect choice for dinner dates and occasions where you want to feel a bit more put together without dressing up. The pattern features princess seams at the front, and the front pieces overlap, and an additional narrow tie on the inside ensures the front stays neatly in place when you move.
Sizing: XXS – XXL (approx. UK 6 – 22/24)
I feel like I put this pattern on loads of lists, but it's because it is that good! Featuring a comfortable and easy-to-fit elastic waist and three-leg options, Chanterelle will fill any gap in your wardrobe and be an all-season piece for years to come. My favourite detail is the playful cropped leg silhouette shaped with a pleat and cuff at the ankle that give the 'barrell leg' look which is very trendy at the moment.
Sizing: US 0 – 34 (approx. UK 6/8 – 32/34)
Bias cut slip skirts are hot right now and this clever pattern gives you are dress option too (which is perfect for wedding season)! Alameda is a surprisingly simple pattern thanks to the elasticated waistband, so confident beginners and beyond will enjoy this project. The pattern comes with two lengths: below-the-knee or midi above-the-ankle, so you are unlikely to make just one.
Sizing: UK 6 – 20 or UK 16 – 28
If you are ready to phase out the jumpers in favour of something slightly more lightweight, a sweatshirt is a good way to go. The Pine Raglan Sweatshirt has a comfortable, oversized fit. The neckband is slightly chunkier than a standard crew neck, giving the sweatshirt a vintage and unisex feel. You can sew a cropped version to wear with all your high-waist bottoms and the hip-length for a cosy throw-on sweater.
Sizing: A – P (approx. UK 4 – 32)
Streamlining life means finding the perfect bag to carry your everyday essentials around in, and this is the one you need to have on your spring sewing list.
The Bestie Bag is a banana-shaped carry-all companion with four views, so you can tailor its size, straps, and pockets to suit your needs and style. Make one for you and your bestie as a (very) thoughtful and useful gift. Because having the right sized bag for every occasion is what a girl wants, grab the expansion to make an adorable mini version of the bestie bag.
Sizing: the Bestie Bag gives you two sizes to sew and the Baby Bestie Expansion Pack gives you a mini version to sew (you must own the main pattern to make it).
I hope that's put a little spring in your sewing step and made you feel energised for the season ahead. I hope it proves that sewing doesn't have to be fiddly, easy patterns can be just as interested as more involved makes, but you have a higher chance of finishing them off!
