Suggested fabrics: Avenir is designed for woven fabrics. Choose a fabric that feels good on your skin as this jumpsuit covers most of your body. You will get a different look depending on the type of fabric you select. It looks great in linen, rayon challis, and wovens with a bit of drape. Avoid anything that is too stiff or heavy.

Fabric requirements: You may need to purchase extra yardage if your fabric has a heavy nap, is directional, striped, or has an obvious repeat.

Long sleeve version: 45" (114 cm) wide fabric: 3.9 - 6.3 yd (3.6 - 5.8 m) // 54-60" (137-153 cm) wide fabric: 3 - 4.7 yd (2.7 - 4.3 m).

Short sleeve version: 45" (114 cm) wide fabric: 3.3 - 5.7 yd (3 - 5.2 m) // 54-60" (137-153 cm) wide fabric: 2.4 - 4 yd (2.2 - 3.7 m).

Sizing: XS – 7X (approx. UK 6 – 34, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

The pattern was drafted using sample measurements for a height of 5’6″ (168 cm) and a B-cup bra size.

I'm late to the Avenir party but kept seeing lots of amazing makes in my IG feed that tempted me to give it a try.

The hardest part was deciding on what size to make due to the ease/oversized look of the jumpsuit. I went with XL at the shoulders grading out to XXL at waist (but brought the elastic in a bit more) & cut XXL for the hips. I normally cut a 20/22 in big 4 patterns.

It's an easy make, suitable for confident beginners but with a different way of creating the waistband casing, I had to read over the instructions a couple of times.

I used wider elastic (3/4 ins) at the neck and waistline. I used a nice weighty cotton/linen blend from Rainbowfabrics which was a dream to sew with. I left the pant legs on the longer side, turning the hem up by 2ins in total (I'm 5ft 2.5ins).

I'm super happy with the finished garment and see another one in a viscose coming up soon in the sewing queue!

Elastic is king

The Avenir Jumpsuit shows how a humble notion like elastic can take centerstage in the creation of a nifty outfit. Most of the openings are finished off with elastic in this easy-to-sew, easy-to-wear pattern. I use bra-strap elastic to make sure the garment will last as long as possible. Very good jumpsuit pattern for beginners. The pockets are huge - which is always a bonus. The best thing is that this jumpsuit is a good competitor against your sweats for comfort, but will beat them squarely in terms of style. For more details, go to my blog: Geri In Stitches
