A shacket is a very fine thing. An extra indoor layer when it’s cold and a lightweight layer when you need a jacket in the warmer months. French Navy always deliver the goods and this jacket ticks a lot of boxes. With options you can mix and match, like the angled hip pockets and a welted chest pocket, the Portmanteau Shacket is a great make to kickstart your sewing year.
Have you ever given hand-sewing a garment a go? Juliana Martejevs has completed a co-ord set with the Lilly Skirt. Style it with the Nelly Coat and hand sew it from the comfort of the sofa. It’s the ultimate slow and cosy sewing project. Just what January needs!
Just like the Lilly Skirt, Molly is a midi skirt you put together entirely without a sewing machine using only a simple hand embroidery technique. The skirt has patch pockets at the front, a slit in the back, and closes with snaps at the side. Trendsetters – I predict the blanket stitch detail is making a comeback!
If you want to sew a clever party dress that isn’t actually a dress – more of a faux dress that can be separated to wear with other pieces, I think this skirt would be a great choice. The Valeria Skirt is a feminine high-low skirt pattern with a gathered asymmetric hem panel and comfy elasticated waistband.
A comfy yet chic dress that looks great with winter boots? Sign me up! The second new release from The Patterns Room is my favourite. Lora is a minimalist, pull-on dress and top designed for knit fabrics. The multiple style options make it a great staple in your pattern collection.
Looking for a date night dress that is special enough to wear to any soiree you might have on the cards this year? The Joline Dress is a gorgeous wrap dress with deep V-neck and feminine silhouette. It’s elegant, classy and will make you feel a million dollars.
Bags are a popular project for Fold Liners and I think this one is just great. With loads of details that elevate this pattern, the Emma Tote Bag offers plenty of space to carry all your essentials in style.
The Folkwear Vintage Bathing Costume design dates from around 1890 and features a gored skirt with deep pleats in the back and a whimsical Sailor collar. Top it off with the jaunty bathing cap for an authentic look.
The Folkwear Schoolmistress Shirtwaist and Skirt design dates from about 1907, a period when women’s clothing became more man-tailored. The sweeping seven-gore skirt has an inverted pleat below the centre back closure for fullness, as well as optional bias trim.
