Buy the Portmanteau Shacket sewing pattern from French Navy. The Portmanteau pattern includes two styles, both featuring a relaxed boxy fit (perfect for layering), slightly dropped shoulders, a two-piece collar, and a separate button stand. Style A has angled hip pockets and a welted chest pocket, all neatly concealed within the semi-lined jacket front. Style B, inspired by the classic workwear jacket, is unlined, has three patch pockets, and offers a more utilitarian aesthetic. Both styles are suited to a variety of fabrics and fabric weights, making this pattern a super versatile piece that can be customised to any season.

Main: Medium to heavy weight fabrics such as flannel, linen, chambray, denim, corduroy, wool, wool blends, etc.

Style A lining: Lighter weight fabrics such as cotton, linen, poplin, rayons, etc. (perfect for using up remnants from previous projects).

Fabric requirements: 

Style A: 115 cm (45″) wide fabric: 2.6 – 3.2 m (2.9 – 3.5 yd) // 150 cm (59″) wide fabric: 2 – 2.8 m (2.2 – 3 yd).

Style A lining: 115 cm (45″) wide fabric: 0.8 – 1.2 m (0.9 – 1.3 yd) // 150 cm (59″) wide fabric: 0.8 – 0.9 m (0.9 – 1 yd).

Style B: 115 cm (45″) wide fabric: 2.5 – 3.2 m (2.7 – 3.5 yd) // 150 cm (59″) wide fabric: 2 – 2.5 m (2.2 – 2.7 yd).

Sizing: A – N (approx. UK 6/8 – 34, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

The pattern is drafted for a height of 171 cm (5’7″) and a B cup. If you are significantly taller or shorter, you can adjust the pattern using the LENGTHEN/SHORTEN lines on the pattern pieces.
