TOP FAQs

Do you sell sewing patterns?

> Yes, we have a sewing pattern shop with paper and PDF sewing patterns from independent (and soon commercial sewing pattern designers). We sell hundreds of sewing patterns and are adding new patterns available to buy each week. We ship worldwide.

Why aren’t all the sewing patterns in the database available to buy?

> Not all patterns are available to buy for a number of reasons: they are out of print or we don’t yet stock the patterns from that designer. We are adding new patterns available to buy each week and hope to eventually sell every pattern in the database!

Why do you have a sewing ‘pattern shop and database’?

> We are aiming to build a database of all dressmaking patterns from designers around the world. At the moment we have around 10,000 sewing patterns in the database. We want it to be a really useful resource for makers to browse all the dressmaking patterns in one place. We also sell some of the sewing patterns in the database from both independent and commercial designers. These are labelled with their price and stock status. You can use our search tool to buy sewing patterns or browse the entire database.

How do I search for or buy sewing patterns?

> You can use our search tool to buy sewing patterns or browse the entire database. Select any of the options from the search tool to narrow down the results. You can choose from options including: garment, designer, size, price, sewing level or fabric type. Plus you can also select for stock status, PDF or PAPER format and whether the sewing pattern has been designed by an independent or commerical company.

Where can I find your delivery and return details?

> All these details can be found here

Where can I chat, ask for advice and make sewing friends?

> Our Facebook group is full of sewing chatter. Get advice and share news and your makes. Just request to join here and we will add you.

What makes a good review?

> Reviews are really helpful for our community of sewing enthusiasts. Here are a few ideas of what you could include.

To rate the pattern by the star system, one star is the lowest rating and 5 stars is the highest rating.

Firstly the practical things … What fabric did you use? Were the instructions easy to follow? Was the pattern simple to use? Did you make any fitting alterations?

It would also be good to know … Did your finished project look how you expected it to? What did you like and dislike? What difficulty level would you rate the pattern? Would you recommend it to a friend? And if you don’t mind sharing, your size and how you would describe your body shape (but we understand if you do!)

What do the difficulty ratings mean? What skills are needed for each level?

> Absolute beginner: these pattern are suitable for people who have never sewn before.

> Confident beginner: these patterns are suitable for makers who have made some garments before and are looking to stretch their skills.

> Intermediate: these patterns are appropriate for people who have made a range of garments and are confident in adding an invisible zip, waistband, facings and sleeves.

> Advanced: these patterns are suitable for makers who have more lots of experience in sewing. These patterns would include wedding dresses, lined coats and tailoring.

I have found a mistake in one of the pattern listings, what should I do?

> Please let us know so we can correct it by emailing hello@thefoldline.com … we are only human and the odd error may have found it’s way in!

What patterns do you list on The Fold Line?

> Our aim is to list all dressmaking patterns on the site, including those designed for women, men and children. We are adding new patterns to the site almost every day. Check out the dropdown ‘Designer’ search option on the Search Patterns page to see who we currently list. We are only able to add patterns to the site when we have received permission from the designer to use their images. We do not list embroidery, tapestry, crochet, felting, craft or knitting patterns.

I can’t find a pattern I’m looking for, why?

> This could be for a couple of reasons. Try using less search options when you search for a pattern. Alternatively it could be because the pattern you are looking for is not in the database yet. We are adding new patterns almost everyday so please be patient with us. We are only able to add patterns to the site when we have received permission from the designer to use their images. For a full list of designers currently on the site – check out the dropdown ‘Designer’ search option in the sewing patterns database. If there is a missing pattern you would like us to add please email: hello@thefoldline.com

I have pattern search results that I didn’t expect, why?

> Many patterns have multiple garment options, particularly from the bigger commercial companies e.g. a pattern may have options to make a jacket, top and trousers. This pattern will appear in all these garment search categories. This can also happen for men and women’s garment options or adult and children’s options, for example a jacket may be suitable for both men and women or shorts for men and boys. Often the main photo for these patterns doesn’t reflect all these different options so please click on the pattern to get more details from the description.
