Where can I chat, ask for advice and make friends? The Forum!

> When we first built the site we included groups and comments within these groups were listed as a continual feed. From your feedback we then added a Forum to the site because it is more user-friendly. This is a traditional style forum where there are topics and within these you can start a thread. This is ideal if you want to ask a question, look for advice, share your makes or organise a local meet-up. It also has a search function too.

I am having problems uploading photos,  please help!

> To upload a photo onto the site it must be have a maximum file size of 4MB and ideally .jpeg or .png file format. If you are still having problems please email us (hello@thefoldline.com) the photo, when you tried to upload it, on what device (e.g. computer, iPad, iPhone) and if on a computer, what browser you used (e.g. chrome, safari). We can then look into this for you.

I have discovered spam, what should I do?

> We check the website several times a day to remove spam, but if we’ve missed something please email us hello@thefoldline.com Thank you!

I am having problems adding my social media links to my profile, please help!

> Your social media links need adding to your profile as the full website address, for example https://twitter.com/thefoldline, not @ thefoldline. If you are still having problems please email us at hello@thefoldline.com and we will look into it.

How do I get a blogger profile?

> Please register for a normal user account using the link on the top right homepage and then email hello@thefoldline.com with a link to your blog plus the username and email you registered with and we will change over your profile. If you have a sewing blog you can have a blogger profile, the only reason we have to change your status from normal user to blogger, rather than you doing it, is to stop pesky spammers! Please help yourself to our In The Fold blogger badge below to put on your blog to spread the word 🙂

I am not getting notifications when members reply to my comments / When I am chatting in the forum to other members, how do I make sure they get a notification of my message?

> When writing or replying to a comment, please use the member’s username (similar to Twitter). For example, if you want to write a comment to us or reply to one of our posts you would include @thefoldline and we would receive a notification.

I get an error message every time I try and send someone a private message through the site, what’s going on?

If you would like to contact a member on the site with the private messaging function, please add them as a ‘Friend’ first. They will need to accept your friend request before you can send a message. Anyone you are ‘Friends’ with will appear in a drop down menu in the ‘Send to’ box. If you try to send a message to someone you are not ‘Friends’ with, you will get an error message. All successfully sent messages will show a confirmation message.

Patterns

Why do I need to register for an account to leave a pattern review?

> We have set it up this way so that we can can manage all accounts on the site and stop spamming and trolling.

What makes a good review?

> Reviews are really helpful for our community of sewing enthusiasts. Here are a few ideas of what you could include.

Firstly the practical things … What fabric did you use? Were the instructions easy to follow? Was the pattern simple to use? Did you make any fitting alterations?

It would also be good to know … Did your finished project look how you expected it to? What did you like and dislike? What difficulty level would you rate the pattern? Would you recommend it to a friend? And if you don’t mind sharing, your size and how you would describe your body shape (but we understand if you do!)

To rate the pattern by the star system, one star is the lowest rating and 5 stars is the highest rating. Click on ‘Rate this pattern’ for the dropdown options for three different categories that are averaged for a super rating. These categories are: Style, Instructions, Pattern. Style refers to what you think of the pattern design; Instructions refers to how well written the instructions are; Pattern refers to how well the pattern is labelled and fits together e.g. do the notches and side seams match.

What do the different body shapes mean?

> Take a look here at our guide to body shapes.

What do the difficulty ratings mean? What skills are needed for each level?

> Take a look here at our guide to difficulty ratings and what skills you need for each level.

I have found a mistake in one of the pattern listings, what should I do?

> Please let us know so we can correct it by emailing hello@thefoldline.com … we are only human and the odd error may have found it’s way in!

What patterns do you list on The Fold Line?

> Our aim is to list all sewing and stitching patterns on the site, including dressmaking (womens, mens and children), homewares, accessories, quilting blocks, embroidery, cross stitch, tapestry, and soft toys. We are adding new patterns to the site almost every day. Check out the dropdown ‘Designer’ search option on the Search Patterns page to see who we currently list. We are only able to add patterns to the site when we have received permission from the designer to use their images. We do not list crochet, felting or knitting patterns.

I can’t find a pattern i’m looking for, why?

> This could be for a couple of reasons. Try using less search options when you search for a pattern, check out our How to search patterns guide. Alternatively it could be because the pattern you are looking for is not in the database yet. We are adding new patterns almost everyday so please be patient with us. We are only able to add patterns to the site when we have received permission from the designer to use their images. For a full list of designers currently on the site – check out the dropdown ‘Designer’ search option on the Search Patterns page.

I have pattern search results that I didn’t expect, why?

> Many patterns have multiple garment options, particularly from the bigger commercial companies e.g. a pattern may have options to make a jacket, top and trousers. This pattern will appear in all these garment search categories. This can also happen for men and women’s garment options or adult and children’s options, for example a jacket may be suitable for both men and women or shorts for men and boys. Often the main photo for these patterns doesn’t reflect all these different options so please click on the pattern to get more details from the description.

Do you sell patterns?

> We currently don’t sell patterns. Each pattern on the database has a link taking you directly to the designer who created it and you can purchase from them directly.
