Most Popular New Pattern Releases of 2022

As 2022 is about to come to a close, we have been nosing at which indie pattern releases have been the most popular with you all this year. We were so intrigued to see what made it into the top ten and to remind ourselves of how many fab indie patterns we intended to make, but will be moving to our 2023 sewing list!

How many have you checked off and what might you add to your 2023 makes list? It’s like sewing bingo!

Friday Pattern Company Saguaro Set

Co-ords (aka, matching sets, two-pieces) were one of the emerging garments of the year for sewists! The Sewing Bee potentially gave us a nudge towards this style when the contestants were challenged to make their own, but there was one indie release that persuaded many to take the plunge. The Friday Pattern Company Saguaro Set is a two-piece woven set made up of elastic waistband pants and a pullover top. It’s full of breezy attitude that’s perfect for holidays. You can wear the pieces together or mix them up with other items in your handmade closet!

Sizing: UK 6 – 34

Sewing lovers often have multiple crafty hobbies, so it’s no surprise that this pattern release got so much love! With roomy pockets for all your treasures and tools that you might need for your day in the kitchen, studio, garden, or hiking, you’ll be hands-free with the Sew Liberated Studio Tunic! It can also be worn as a really lovely pinafore that’s perfect for layering over jeans, leggings, dresses and skirts.

Merchant & Mills Etta Dress

Woman wearing The Etta Dress sewing pattern from Merchant & Mills on The Fold Line. A sleeveless, wrap dress pattern made in linen, brushed cotton, cotton lawn, cotton poplin, tencel, Indian handlooms, lightweight baby cord or cotton double gauze fabrics featuring a lined bodice, in-seam pockets, relaxed fit, fabric side tie and midi length.

This pattern hit my sewing table at speed after the launch and I’ve had so much wear out of it! The Merchant & Mills Etta Dress is quite simply a wrap dress of dreams. The lined bodice makes for pleasing insides and the voluminous gathered skirt is quite dramatic. I love wearing my sleeveless version with t-shirts and rollnecks layered underneath.

Merchant & Mills Quinn Trousers

This latecomer rocketed up the charts when it was released a matter of weeks ago! We wonder if this could be another ‘Sewing Bee effect’, as loads of makers were inspired by the sailor trousers the contestants were challenged to make. The Merchant & Mills Quinn Trousers are sailor-inspired, modern wide-leg trouser that features welt pockets and front pockets with button openings. There’s also a clever buckle fastening at the back for flexible fitting. What’s not to love?!

A jacket pattern made in rayon, tencel, lightweight cotton or linen shirting fabrics, featuring a midi-length, elbow length sleeves with gathered sleeve openings, V-neck, front button closure, curved empire waist seam and flared shirt.

After smock dresses have held the top spot for a while, tea dresses seemed to be all over the high street for spring, so the Named Taika Blouse Dress was well-timed! This lightly fitted dress features a curved waist seam that runs below the bust at the front, and the gathers at the bust and centre back give volume and shape to the bodice, while the vertical seams of the skirt contour the body. 1. I’m always surprised by most of them. I wonder if you are, or if you’re able to predict what they’re going to be? Have a fab new year Foldline Team.

  2. The French Navy vetiver blouse is a big favourite of mine. So far I have made two, one in a dusty pink linen and a second in a gorgeous ditsy pink floral cotton. It is a really lovely pattern and so easy to wear. I had never done princess seams before but I took my time with them and it was fine. The other one on this list that I want to make is the Sew Liberated studio tunic that I have bought a crazy print fabric for and am looking forward to making up.
