Stash Busting Patterns
After the New Year’s Sewing Resolution blog postwe noticed a pattern emerging…a lot of people want to use up their stash this year. This isn’t new news, but we thought we could help you pick some sewing patterns to de-stash your stash! All the patterns included here use about a metre or less of fabric so go forth, pick some dressmaking patterns and accessories to start making.
Womens:
Using up your stash is a great way to fill gaps in your wardrobe and expand your collection of basics. Most of these patterns are also quick to make, so perfect projects to work on during the evening or when you are limited for time. Many of these tops and skirts can easily be mixed and matched too, creating more outfit combinations for work or going out. For the patterns with multiple panels, these are ideal for adding a pop or colour or print and using your favourite scraps.
Mens:
Although there are a lot more sewing patterns designed for women than men, there are still several options to stash bust for the guys including underwear basics and t-shirts. Special scraps including silks or cotton lawns can be used to make items such as ties, which are great gifts.
Bags:
Often smaller pieces of fabric are best suited to accessories and there are lots of bag patterns available to choose from. Don’t forget you can use up some lovely prints for the lining of these totes and shoppers too, which give them a really special finish.
Accessories:
Other accessories to use up your left over fabric include gloves, snoods, scarfs and slippers. These also make perfect gifts and don’t need much fabric at all. You can de-stash your way through plenty of left over prints and knits with some selfless sewing!
Kids:
Children and baby clothes are perfect if you only have a small piece of fabric left over from making garments for yourself. There are lots of lovely outfits for little ones and these are ideal for using up colourful cotton prints. Any jersey scraps are ideal for making baby grows.
Baby:
Toys:
Making toys need only the smallest bits of fabric and you can combine lots of prints and solids to create fun creatures for little ones to treasure.
Animals:
Not forgetting your furry friends, there are a few patterns which can be used to make coats and keep your pet dog dry and warm. These are especially suited to cosy fabrics such as left over wools or waterproofs.
