Buy the Cleo Knit Shorts and Culottes sewing pattern from Sinclair Patterns. These knit shorts are fitted at the waist, semi fitted at the hips, and flared down the thighs. You can make them in short length or just below the knee length (culottes). They can be finished with a standard yoga waistband or V-shaped yoga waistband. There are optional side seam pockets and/or a hidden front waistband key pocket.

Suggested fabrics: This pattern is designed for knit fabrics only.

Main (legs): Light to medium weight well draping opaque knit fabrics with minimum 10-15% horizontal and vertical stretch. Interlock, jerseys, lightweight scuba, ITY, well draping cotton/bamboo lycra, lightweight ponte.

Waistband: Medium weight knit fabrics with at least 50% horizontal and 30% vertical stretch and excellent recovery.

Pocket lining: Light to medium weight knit fabric with low stretch (like jersey). Can be cut from main fabric.

Fabric requirements: 

140-160 cm (50″-60″) wide fabric: Shorts legs, 0.5 – 1 m (3/4 – 1 1/4 yd) // Culottes legs, 0.8 – 1.6 m (1 – 1 3/4 yd) // Waistband, 0.3 m (1/2 yd) // Pocket lining (can be cut within legs yardage), 0.3 m (1/2 yd).

Sizing: US 0 – 30 (approx. UK 6 – 34, based on our standardised size chart) in Petite, Regular and Tall. Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

Petite: 152 – 160 cm (5’1″ – 5’3″)

Regular: 162 – 170 cm (5’4″ – 5’6″)

Tall: 170 – 178 cm (5’7″ – 5’9″)

Choosing your height: The height affects the final fit of the garment at all vertical measurements (not only length, but also armhole depth, depth of the neckline, rise, decorative elements, etc.). If you’re on the boundaries of the heights, follow these recommendations: 1) If you have a long torso, choose the next height, 2) If you have long legs, choose the smaller height, 3) If your torso and legs are proportional, choose the next height.

Notions: Thread; 4 – 7 mm (1/8″ – 1/4″) wide clear or knitted elastic equal to your lower waist measurement // Side pockets option only: 4 strips of knit fusible interfacing, 15 mm (5/8″) wide x 20 cm (8″) long // Optional: Matching overlocker threads, preferably woolly nylon stretch overlocking thread.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4 print-at-home pattern (27 pages); US letter print-at-home pattern (27 pages); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets); projector pattern with a calibrating grid. This pattern is layered, so you can select your size(s) before printing.
