SEW THE TRENDS SPRING: PART 2

SEW THE TRENDS SPRING: PART 2
Kate Underdown

Welcome to part two of Sew the Trends for Spring. We hit the hight street and hunt out core trends and pair them with sewing patterns so that you can sew them. If oyu missed part one,  then make sure you go and read that one first.

Right lets get going... the video goes in depth and all the images are below for a closer look.

Dresses:

Let's start with dresses. This pleated number is fantastic and was in loads of the high street shops.

I was delighted when I cam across the Style Arc Bronte, this dress was spot on. I like that there is a variation to add a longer sleeve too.

Next up the shirtdress, I was delighted to see this popping up for spring and summer. choose between a more structured look like the Sezane and M&S with lots of detail. If you like something a bit more flowy then the Mango and Nobody's child are great options.

For the more structured style the  Style Arc Palmer is a fantastic option.  Patterns Rooms Ira  is great for those of us who like the more flowy option.  Bella Loves Aurea is great for anyone who liked all the pocket details.

Next up the slinky dress department. I thought this would be an easier hunt as you can see lots of satin and this higher slash neckline and sitting at a midi length.

The hunt for thiese were har d bit I think some of these could be great.  Patterns Room Selina and the  Puff and Pencil Boatneck Dress would be good options. If you prefect sewing with stretch then either the Notches Moriko  which has a great rushing detail down the side or Friday Pattern Dew if you like a higher neckline.

THe fit and flare dress looks great on so many body shapes and is a classic, you are likely to have something like this already in your wardrobe.

I was delighted with the Style Arc Carter as this has a jersey top and woven bottom like the Cos dress. The  Style Arc Sabrina is great if you are looking for something less fitted but same silhouette. The Sew Over It Malorie has such a lovely neckline and interesting cut lines - check out the line drawing.

The halter dress in a slinky fabric is back for spring - anyone with a wedding or summer event, this could be a great option.

This was a really hard hunt but either of these would work well, appreciate stock is limited at the moment but either the Simplicity S8330 or the Vogue V2010.

Tops:

Now lets move onto the top department. The boxy shirt is back again for summer, such a classic versatile piece that is definitely worth investing your time into making.

Two fantastic options here, either the Jenna Shirt or the La Chemise Boyish.

The tie front blouse was a popular style this year, as you can see it came in lots of different iterations so you can pick what works for your wardrobe.

I've got FIVE fantastic options for you. For the classic the Maker's Atelier blouse is perfect. The  Zizou is great if you prefect a v-neckline. The Assembly Line Tie Bow has a removatble statement bow. The Pear is perfect if you like an understated look and the Elena has a fun tie on the shoulder.

I was chuffed to see this shape here for summer. Notice that they all have some sort of embellishment on them so you can can some fun with this shape.

I thik that the  Madswick Beth Blouse is probably the closest pick for this. But I had to include the Patina as the neckline is so lovely and the Honey if you prefer a longer sleeve.

Peplum tops are a great way to add a little drama. I love the paired back style of these. The Sezane works well if you wanted something less fitted.

The Ronne Blouse is fantastic all you'd need to do is leave the sleeves off. Similarly the  Ninon Jacket with the sleeves left off looks very similar to the H&M version. If you like a looser top the either the Pintuck Poet blouse  or the Tessuti Hilary.

Loving that polos are back again. A lot of these were knitted items so if you wanted some knitwear this is where I would invest. Also lots in jersey too.

The Pippa Polo is a little more fitted if that is your prefence or choose the Maison Fauve Malibu which is lovely and oversized.

Trousers:

The straight leg trouser is here, choose from this ins a more casual demin or somether tailored.

Three great options for you, either the Allure Trousers the Tessuti Avalon or for a looser fit the Stas

The elasticated waist is here again and I'm not mad about it. A simple sew that requires less fitting is a win win for me.

Either the Named Aulio for a more flowing loor or the Tilly Pants.

Excited that the barrel leg is also back for spring, these came in lots of options but the key thing is to choose is whether you want elasticated waist or not.

For the 'hell no' to the elasticated waist then the  Falkner or the Assembly Line are amazing options. For the 'hell yes' departmewnt then either the brand new Emile or the  Kite pants.

The balloon hem is another strong silhouette for this season and we have some fantastic options for you...

Choose between the  Chanterelle pants or the Tessuti Demi for a more exagerated shape. The Ready to Sew Harper is also a fab option especially if you love a frill.

Skirts:

Finally we move onto skirts and there were lots of lovely things this spring. First up the fit and flare. This wider waistband and midi length skirt is a useful item for your wardrobe.

I've got three good options for you  La Ciotat  is a wrap skirt with wide waistabnd. The Patterns Room Tina is the most dramatic of the thee. The  Fibre Mood Amira would be good too if you like something with more flair.

I think think I'll ever do a trends post again without including the slip skirt.. it's back again!

Two very simialr optinos for you guys here, either the Lilly Skirt or the Evie Skirt.

Finally we have these wide voluminous skirts, as you can see they are sitting lower on the hip and many were ankle length.

The Rumi Skirt is a lovely option and comes with elasticated trousers too.  Claude Skirt would work well too and Hanbok Wrap Skirt is great if you like something with pleats.

I hope that this has been useful and you've found something to sew for spring, let us know what you are going to make!
