THE EDIT: NEW SEWING PATTERN RELEASES - 20 APRIL
It’s time for your weekly dose of The Edit: New Sewing Pattern Releases. This blog and vlog highlight some of the new arrivals to hit the shop this week. Kate natters about all the details you need to know so if you’re a pattern nerd like we are, this is for you!
It's Easter Sunday, and have I got a cracking Edit for you. Before you tuck into a heap of chocolate, I'll be chatting through the sweetest ruffle dress, two patterns with utility vibes, a vest patterns that strikes the smart/casual balance, a chuck on jacket that I can't get enough of, and an easy peasy top we will all want to sew.
If that wasn't enough, I'll be flicking through the latest Tauko magazine and sharing my favourite patterns inside. Told you it was a good week!
Tauko Magazine Issue No. 15
This issue explores the roots of sewing, blending nostalgic memories with the endless possibilities of modern tutorials and online learning. This summer issue is filled with beautifully designed dresses, trousers, and shirts, each reflecting the unique journey of its creator and the inspirations that first brought them to sewing.
There are ten sewing patterns included in the magazine, ready for tracing off in UK sizes 6-32.
The latest drop from Puff and Pencil gives us two sweet (and on-trend) dresses to have fun with - just decide whether you are in the sleeves or no sleeves camp.
Puff and Pencil Ruffle Dress & Big T Sleeve
This bundle includes two separate patterns – the Ruffle Blouse and the Big T Sleeve – which work in combination to make a short sleeve dress. It is unlined and can be made sleeveless or with the Big T Sleeve - the sleeve features a wide T-shirt fit and a cuff detail which is sewn on and folded inward for a crisp edge.
Puff and Pencil Ruffle Dress
The Ruffle Dress is a loose-fitting mini dress with a wide gathered hem ruffle. The dress features a round neckline with a keyhole opening and ties at the back. It is unlined and has facings at the neckline and armholes.
Ready to Sew Hendrix Sleeveless Jacket
We are all fawning over this pattern, and we are sure many of you will be too. Versatile and easy to wear, Hendrix layers perfectly over a boxy T-shirt, a sweater, or even a hoodie. With its relaxed cut you can size up for an oversized feel or down for a more fitted silhouette. You could even use up old denim to recreate the gorgeous sample pictured.
Ready to Sew Harry Utility Pants
This pattern requires your full attention as the details need studying. Harry blurs the line between tailoring and workwear, resulting in a bold yet timeless piece. Its high waist with an integrated waistband, front pleats, and straight cut create a structured silhouette, while the topstitched Italian pockets, side utility pocket, and adjustable back cinch ground it firmly in the workwear tradition. I myself, can't get enough of those shorts.
The Modern Sewing Co Devon Waistcoat
We've had some great vest patterns dropping recently and this one expertly balances smart and casual. It features subtle feminine shaping through the seams. The fastening options give each piece a different personality, and the lining enables extra cosy winter versions or a lightweight summer finish, which could be reversible.
Tessuti Fabrics Lisbon Jacket
We love a lightweight layer, and the pick of the week is a very stylish example of one. If you like to make sure you have something to hand when you leave the house, Lisbon is a fantastic option. Featuring dropped shoulders and long sleeves that taper to a generous hem which can be cuffed for a relaxed, modern look, this unlined jacket is meant for chucking on.
The wide single-welt pockets with bound pocket bags, and a deep, stitched-down back facing taking the sewing up a notch. It’s a great project for stepping up your sewing game.
Tilly and the Buttons Samara Top
Do we have any beginners in the house? Or maybe, like me, you can’t resist an easy sewing project. Enter the Samara top, an easy-breezy top that's quick and simple to make.
This top has no zips, buttons or ties to sew, making it an absolute breeze. With its simple shape and fabric requirement of under 2 metres (for 140 cm fabrics, the cropped, elbow sleeve view), you can indulge in that fabric you’ve been eyeing up without breaking the bank. You’ll want to make it again and again, so this pattern is one worth having in your stash.
How's that for you? It's been a pretty tempting week, hasn't it?! Have a wonderful week and I'll see you in seven days time!
