The Edit: New Sewing Pattern Releases – 2 June

It’s time for your weekly dose of The Edit: New Sewing Pattern Releases. This blog and vlog highlight some of the new arrivals to hit the shop this week. Kate natters about all the details you need to know so if you’re a pattern nerd like we are, this is for you!

Puff and Pencil – Tie Blouse, Lantern Sleeve and Peggy Collar: Fancy sewing your own take on the viral Ganni blouse? This pattern is a great dupe with the addition of a cute collar and the sleeves make it a little more wearable if you aren’t a fan of puff sleeves. The Tie Blouse is an open blouse with a loose fit, v-neck and tie closures at the front. The blouse can be made with or without sleeves and with or without a collar. This version comes with cool lantern sleeves. If you want an even simpler tie front style, check out the Tie Blouse & Lantern Sleeve or simpler still is the Tie Blouse and the Cone Sleeve.

Friday Pattern Company – Butano Button Up: When you see that FPC have a new release, you know it’s going to be good!  Butano has a relaxed fit with enough ease to feel effortless without being entirely oversized. Pick from short or long sleeves and add the optional neckerchief – a detail that can be worn in a bunch of different ways. The shirt also features bust darts, a back pleat, and cute chest patch pocket. The instructions include clever construction techniques to make the trickier aspects of sewing a button-up achievable!

Puff and Pencil – Boatneck Dress: This stylish and chic design is the perfect base for any print or plain fabric. The dress has front and back panels that provide shape, as well as darts for shaping. The pattern includes both short and long versions. The Boatneck Dress is sleeveless, but it can be made with any of Puff and Pencil’s dress and blouse sleeves (available in Puff and Pencil dress and blouse pattern bundles).

Thread Theory – Men’s Bamberton Shorts: The Bamberton Shorts can easily transition from beach to town depending on material choice. Sew them as quick-dry surf shorts, comfy linen summer shorts, or in lighter breezy materials such as seersucker. The styling options are vast with the woven and knit waistband variations. They match the women’s version too!

Thread Theory – Women’s Bamberton Shorts: Easy breezy shorts are a must for the summer. I could see myself pottering around the garden in these. The drawstring waistband and side seam panels provide plenty of opportunity for contrasting or coordinating colour schemes, and the mock fly and topstitched details elevate this project from just a quick sew. The legs are pleasingly roomy, so they will be comfortable to wear.

Folkwear – 256 Child/Adult At the Hop Outfit:  Get ready to rock around the clock with this fabulous 1950s blouse, skirt and cardigan! The pattern includes a blouse with a Peter Pan collar and an easy-to-sew circle skirt. The skirt can be appliquéd with a poodle or alpine design (instructions and designs are included for both). If you knit, the pattern includes instructions for knitting a cardigan with a choice of poodle. What fun!

Folkwear – 280 Resort Caftan: In the late 1960s and early 1970s the kaftan entered mainstream fashion, worn by icons such as Diana Vreeland and Elizabeth Taylor. This pattern is for a typical early 1970s kaftan with a V-neck and empire waist. It’s great for poolside lounging or would make an elegant evening dress.
