Buy the 280 Resort Kaftan sewing pattern from Folkwear. In the late 1960s and early 1970s the kaftan entered mainstream fashion, worn by icons such as Diana Vreeland and Elizabeth Taylor. This pattern is for a typical early 1970s kaftan with a V-neck and empire waist. The drape of this floor-length pullover dress makes it comfortable and graceful. It has short sleeves, and optional inside ties for shaping. The bodice and panels around the dress allow for mixing fabric prints. Make it in a soft cotton for a perfect poolside or beach cover-up. Or make it from a flowing silk and dress it up for an elegant evening.

Suggested fabrics: Light to medium weight fabrics with good drape such as silk, cotton gauze, voile, lawn, silk/cotton blends, handkerchief linen, rayon challis, Tencel.

Fabric requirements: 45″ (115 cm) wide fabric: 4 1/2 – 5 1/4 yd (4.1 – 4.8 m) // 60″ (150 cm) wide fabric: 3 5/8 – 4 5/8 yd (3.3 – 4.2 m).

Requirements are for fabric without nap, pile, or one-way design.

Sizing: XS – 3XL (approx. UK 4/6 – 28/30, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: 50″-75″ (127-191 cm) twill tape for inside ties (optional); 1/2 yd (0.46 m) interfacing for facings.
