Top 10 Pyjama Indie Sewing Patterns

Sewing your own pyjamas may seen like a self indulgent sew but if you wear pjs at night you are in them for over eight hours! Let me tell you there is nothing nice than a handmade pair. They also make wonderful presents for friends and family so if you wanted to get ahead with Christmas presents (I know I’m sorry I mentioned the C word) then there are some fantastic options in here. We’ve also included a couple of dressing gowns too if you wanted to really pimp your loungewear.

Agnes Pyjama set from Paper Theory:

The Agnes pyjama set is a fantastic option if you wanted to make a classic pair of pjs that have a simple construction. The pattern comes with a short and trouser option and an elasticated waist. The top has grown on sleeves, patch pockets and a designed to be a loose fit. We think these would be great for confident beginner.

Pipit Loungewear Set from Common Stitch:

The pipit loungewear set has been a firm favourite within the sewing community and we can see why. The pattern features a button up v neck front and flared sleeves. This makes it perfect if you wriggle around in your sleep! The top flairs from the underarm seam and the shorts are loose fitting with an elasticated waist. A great sewing pattern for warmer weather.

Night Garden PJ Set from Sew to Grow: 

The night garden pj set is great if you like to wear a strap top in bed rather that long sleeves. The pattern is designed to be made in a woven fabric and has patch pocket detail on the bust. The buttons are drawstring with a tie at the front.

Piccadilly Pyjamas from Nina Lee: 

The Piccadilly pyjamas are fantastic if you are looking for a pj pattern with a twist and lots of great details. The top features a mandarin collar, button up front, slits in side seams and a choice of sleeve length. Our favourite detail is the lovely sweetheart patch pockets. The bottoms are elasticated at the back of the trouser and have a drawstring at the front. Again choose between leg length on these.

Carolyn Pyjamas from Closet Core Patterns: 

The Carolyn Pyjamas are a cut classic within the sewing community and I sure many of you have either made these of own the pattern! These are your classic pyjamas, notched collar, piped seams and loads of great details making this a more involved make.  You can pick between trousers and shorts, they  have an elasticated waist and pockets – hurrah!

Reef Camisole set from Megan Neilsen: 

The Reef set is a fantastic summer pyjama set, the top has a v-shaped neckline with wide straps. The details for this top is at the back with an interesting crossover detail. There are two length options on the short that have an elasticated waist.

Pine Cove Pyjamas from Itch to Stitch: 

The Pine Cove pyjamas look so cosy I wish I was wearing them now! These feel like a mix between pjs and a dressing gown with the tie feature. The wrap feature on the top is really unusual, the front pieces overlap with tie closures on the inside and out and a v-neckline. The trousers are elasticated at the waist.

Comfi Tee and Pants Lounge Set from Pattern Scout:

The Comfi tee and pants set are perfect if you are looking to make a pair of jersey pyjamas. These will move with you in the night  and are also a speedy sew.. what’s not to love? Choose between a long or short sleeves t-shirt for the top and trousers or shorts for the base. These are a fantastic simple sew and a great option if you are new to sewing.

Pyjama Bottoms:

For those of you that are completely new to sewing, or want to make some super speedy presents for friends and family! I thought I’d add a couple of sewing patterns that would work well. I’ve included one in paper and one in PDF.  The Jaimie pyjama bottoms from Tilly and the Buttons have an elasticated waist and can be made into short too. The pyjama bottoms from the Avid Seamstress have a pocket feature that I know a lot of you will love and an elastic waist.

Lahja Unisex Dressing Gown: 

Now for the dressing gowns! First up is the Lahja from Named clothing this is a fantastic option because it’s unisex so you can make one for the whole family.. if you are a selfless maker! The pattern has all the features of a classic dressing gown, with patch pockets and a tie at the front. You can also make it in two lengths depending on what you are after.

Wynwood Robe and Sleep Shorts from Liesl + Co:

The Wynwood robe and sheep shorts is great if you are looking for a dressing gown and bottoms set. The shorts are a great shape with a curved outer facing that makes a lovely feature and can be made in a contract fabric. The dressing gown has wide sleeves and all the usual features you’d expect.
