Buy The Wilder Gown sewing pattern from Friday Pattern Company. The Wilder Gown is a loose, flowy, tiered dress that can be sewn up in a bunch of different ways! It has raglan sleeves and ties up at the neck. It is easy to sew and is perfect for drapey woven fabrics. The Wilder Gown can be made as a top or dress, long or short sleeved, with one skirt tier or two. The design is fairly modular so it is easy to customize to your vision!

Suggested fabrics: You will get a different look depending on the type of fabric you select. A drapey rayon or silk will give it a more elegant dressy look, while a more sturdy fabric like a linen will give you a structured everyday dress. We encourage you to be creative and daring with fabric! It would look amazing in a cotton voile, rayon challis, or chiffon.

Fabric requirements: Dress 45″ or 115cm wide fabric // 3.7 m – 4.8 m (4 yards – 5.25 yards), 60″ or 140cm wide fabric // 3 m – 4.1 m (3.33 yards – 4.5 yards). Shirt 45″ or 115cm wide fabric // 1.6 m – 2.4 m (1.75 yards – 2.63 yards), 60″ or 140cm wide fabric // 1.4 m – 1.7 m (1.5 yards – 2 yards).

5 out of 5 Sewing The Wilder Gown By Friday Pattern Company. A Review

I have been eyeing up all those beautiful voluminous dresses and blouses in the high street this season. Cool, floaty and perfect to hide the ‘pasta paunch’ after a delicious lunch! Or when its so hot, you want something that doesn’t cling, that will look equally good at home, on the beach or abroad this summer. This is the answer the wilder gown does all this and more, is simple to sew and very versatile. Make it long, short, wide or more fitted, long sleeves or short? It really is up to you!
I made the sleeves slightly wider, as I wanted a loose ‘kaftan style’ sleeve and added a ribbon instead of using the same fabric. Lace was used as a trimming on the inside of the narrow sleeve hem. I used my over locker/serger to neaten and trim all seams. I only had enough fabric for 4 rectangles instead of five, for the 2 tiers and that worked out fine, I still had lots of floaty volume. For a neater finish on the bodice I top stitched the bottom of the top to the first tier.
The pattern instructions are well illustrated and simply explained. You won’t have to learn about facings or setting in any sleeves as the neck is cut as one with the raglan sleeves, its absolutely brilliant!

Update I recently made the top version too!

I made this gown the day after it came out, I’d fallen in love with the sneak peeks.

It’s a simple sew and comes together quick once the gathering is done. I think there’s lots of ways it could be hacked too.

I went down a size and did a 1 inch fba and did a slightly shorter skirt. It does have a lot of ease but I like that.
