Ta Ra Terras! – Patten Fantastique

A review of Pattern Fantastique Terra Pants

Brilliant trousers!

These are my second pair of Terra Pants. I really like the unusual ‘architectural’ cut of these. It’s not often you find this kind of interesting cutting in sewing patterns. They also work particularly well for me as my hips are very slim compared to my waist. They balloon out at the hips, making me look much more ‘hourglass’ shaped, which feels nice for a change! However, I think they would also work for larger hips too. I made these previously using a thin, drapy cotton. These are made using a much more structured cotton canvas and I love the way they hold the shape and stick out!

They look smart but a very comfy.

Pattern Description:

The Terra Pant from Pattern Fantastique has deep front tucks and volume. Choice of welt or patch pockets on the back.

Pattern Sizing:

6 – 16 (Australian)

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes.

Were the instructions easy to follow?

Yes. Very good instructions, actually. Just watch that the seam allowance is 1cm.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

The excellent welt pocket instructions, the deep front pleats, leg shape and pocket bags.

Fabric Used:

Navy cotton canvas from my stash.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

I cut size 14,  graded up the waist to 16 and slimmed the hips slightly. This is my normal weird way of choosing a size as I am a 10 on the hips and a 16 at the waist! I also took 2cm off the crotch length all round, and a bit more on the back seam for a flat butt adjustment. They are still quite loose around the crotch but that is part of the style.

I shortened the legs by 8cm – again usual for me (5’2″) and put elastic in the back waist rather than darts as my waist fluctuates.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, I definitely recommend it.

Conclusion:
My favourite pair of trousers now!
