Papercut Patterns Sequence Blouse and Dress

This is one of those times where I'm kicking myself for leaving a pattern in my stash for so long.

I really love this blouse.  I was slightly put off, thinking I would need to adjust the wrap and play about with the fit.  In actual fact, the wrap was perfect on me and I only made minor length adjustments on the bodice, and corresponding sections of the ties.

I made a size 3 with the wide ties.  I shortened the bodice by 1.5", then shortened the facing and wide side of the tie by 1.5" and levelled the curves accordingly.

I finished my Sequence dress and it's perfect for the warmer weather. It was a quick sew as it has no fastenings other than ties and a hidden button. Also not really any fitting involved as there are no darts, etc, and you adjust the fit by how you tie the dress.

I altered the dress by adding about 14" to the length and I also squared off the bottom wrap to give more coverage on a windy day ? And I did my usual 2cm narrow shoulder adjustment.

Fabric is a linen rayon blend from Fabricdrop - it is a bigger pattern than I usually wear but I think it works!!

I would recommend this pattern and I am working on a top version now.

The day after the dress makers ball I treated myself to some satin twill fabric, I knew I wanted to use it to make something special for my friends wedding and when paper cut patterns launched their rubix collection I fell in love with the sequence dress and knew it would be perfect for this fabric. Its perfect for a large scale fabric print because it doesn't have a lot of seam lines.

I really do love paper cut patterns but I would say that they aren't really suitable for the novice sewist, I find the instructions sometimes sparse and the pattern doesn't include any adjustment lines, but if you can add these yourself you will be fine. It come together super quick and a lovely satisfying sew.

I made a few adjustments to my version, I removed 1.5 inches from the bodice length as I found the side tie was sitting too low and I lengthened the skirt by 4 inches so it sat at my knee. I used the thicker ties because I wanted them to be a feature but I think the dress version might look better with the skinnier ties that are included.if you want the ties to be able to wrap around you like they have done in the images you may need to lengthen them a little too. Also I added under-stitching to the facing to stop it turning out and interfaced where the button and the button loop sit on the inside of the dress so they didn't cause any damage to the fabric.

I would definitely recommend this pattern.
