Box Pleat Dress by The Assembly Line

A review of The Assembly Line Box Pleat Dress

For this dress I used a lightweight wool/cashmere/silk suiting fabric and I think this kind of fabric worked well for the dress. I would not recommend very soft and drapey fabric, but cotton lawn could work. The instructions say you should use the fabric for the pockets as well, but I used some cotton poplin remnants.

I think the instructions were easy to follow (I used the swedish version) and actually this was a easy dress to make. I think it looks elegant with nice details as the box pleat in the back and the wide sleeves. If  you like this kind of loose fitting dress I do recommend this pattern. As the instructions are so clear with illustrations for each step, I think even a beginner could make this dress.

I’m 157 cm tall, B 90, W:77, H: 100, and made a size S with no alterations except shortening the dress 5 cm. I also cut the front piece without front seam, omitting the seam allowance and cutting the front piece on the fold. The dress fits nicely over the bust and shoulders and I’m very happy with how it turned out! I’m already planning to do another one (in a silk-viscose-blend, black with golden stripes). This is the perfect post-Christmas-food-dress, elegant and tailored but not fitted and tight over the waist ;-).
