Just wow - Flavia Dress

I'm making a toile in a cheap green satin from Walthamstow Market.  It still needs hemming so no photos, but it feels amazingly glamorous, like something a 1940s film star would wear.  Really gorgeous, very flattering, without being difficult to fit.  Some points to be aware of:

Both skirt and bodice are bias cut, which is probably why it feels so fabulous.  The bodice has grown on sleeves, and the pattern pieces are all pretty big, so I had to resort to cutting it out on the floor.  I recommend copy shop printing - even with that I had to tape some of the pattern pieces together because they are so big that they don't fit on one copy shop sheet.

The skirt is really long, and I suspect has been sized on the assumption you're wearing platform heels.  I'm 5ft 4, and ordered a height size 2 and am going to have to take it up at least 4 inches.  If you don't want a full length skirt, it might be worth ordering a smaller height size.

The instructions are generally good.  I hadn't done a slit re-enforcement before, and so I don't know if their method is typical, but I nearly missed a crucial detail : the instruction to sew it to the seam allowance does mean to the seam allowance only, not all the way through, which is why it says sew it in two sections.

This could make a good bridesmaid's dress, as I think it would flatter a lot of figure shapes.  The thigh slit is very high, but I've made it about 6 inches lower and still have no problem moving in the skirt.

I was thinking of making this in a "good" fabric for a wedding I'm going to.  However the grown-on sleeves combined with cuffs and the fitted waist means that you can't really raise your arms above your head, so it's wouldn't be practical for dancing.  A great shame, because the dress is fabulous
