Buy the 8139 vintage bathing dress and beach coat sewing pattern from Simplicity. It’s perfect for an advanced beginner/intermediate dressmaker. Bring it back to the 1950’s with this vintage beachwear pattern. Pattern includes lined bathing dress with elastic at legs, kimono sleeve coat with self belt, or with contrast lining. Simplicity vintage sewing pattern.

Suggested fabrics: Broadcloth, Cotton Types, Linen Types. A Lining sized for stretch knits only: Jersey, Activewear Knits, Spandex Blends. B,C also in Denim, Terry Cloth. 

Note: Extra fabric maybe needed to match plaids, stripes, one-way designs fabrics or shrinkage.

Sizing: H5 (6-8-10-12-14) R5 (14-16-18-20-22), approx. UK sizes H5 (4/6 – 10), R5 (10– 18/20). Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Thread. A: One 12" zipper, hook and eye. B,C: One 7/8" button.

Great for relaxing - not sure about swimming

I'm really pleased with how this pattern turned out in the end but it was a bit of a struggle to get there.

This pattern has a fitted jersey lining which naturally, because of Big 4 ease, was much too big. That meant a lot of fitting to stop it looking like a weird baby grow.

As I had to change the stretch lining so much that meant I also had to refit the woven main fabric. But as this had no stretch and the construction is shaped with panels instead of darts like the lining I basically had to fit two separate garments then try and fit the two together.

The beach coat however, was really simple to make and I love to wear around the house in the summer as it's so light a comfortable.
