Simplicity Amazing Fit Dress 1800

The first thing to note is that the instructions for this are a bit complex. they explain how to make test dress first to get the fit correct, but it doesn't make this clear so if you don't want to make a mock up you need to use some brain power to convert the pattern instructions e.g. it will tell to you sew with wrong sides together for the test so you need to adapt instructions and sew right sides together. The pictures in the instructions are also not too helpful.

The second thing I found was that it is much more like an empire line rather than having a waist line more similar to the picture on the front of the pattern, so you may want to lengthen the bodice - though I quite liked the higher line. the fitting worked well for me as I have DD bust so it was very easy - you just choose the pattern pieces for the DD and my standard dress size and I didn't have to do any alteration or tapering between sizes to get a fit, I just made it exactly to the pattern. I love the style and the pockets especially the neckline. The darts in the back and pleats at the front make it look really good and depending on fabric could be a smart or more casual dress. I think a heavy cotton would hold the shape and hang nicely especially as the waist line is higher so in light fabric it may look slightly like a maternity dress.
