Buy the Partner Overalls sewing pattern from Ready to Sew. The Partner Overalls are inspired by workwear like carpenter pants and gardening overalls. They are straight-legged with an adjustable cinch tie at the waist. The pattern has four patch pockets, including a large pocket that wraps around to the back. The hem is drafted to be full length, but looks stylish when rolled above the ankle as well. These overalls are practical, comfortable and designed to last. The overalls' ease at the waist allows them to be put on without any buttons or zippers.

The drafting for size ranges 1 and 2 is different. The overalls for range 2 have a chest dart and two front waist darts as well as a slightly rounder centre front to accommodate a larger midsection.

Optional: Sew the overalls with elastic at the bottom of the strap for added comfort and so you can move more freely.

The overalls are photographed with the Jazz Top, Jeanne T-shirt and Primo T-shirt.

Note: An expansion pack (sold separately) is available for the Partner Overalls. The Partner Overalls Expansion Pack includes curved inset pockets, a faux fly, a slimmer leg with a slight crop, a double knee and lots of topstitching details!

Great fit but a little confusing

I want to start of f by saying I am so so so happy with how these turned out! The fit is excellent and the finishing is really good.

For the most part this project was a breeze, it came together really nicely and I didn’t have to make many adjustments other than to the height to get the perfect fit.

The only reason it hasn’t got 5* and if I could I would give it 4.5* is that when it comes to sewing the bib to the trousers the instructions get a little confusing and I did a bit of head scratching to get there. Luckily I have sewing experience to pull from but if you haven’t sewn dungarees before or a little less experienced it may take a while to figure it out.

Other than that I really love them and I will be sewing more pairs.

Nice design, but weird drafting

I was looking for overalls to sew that would be comfortable for working in the garden. I chose the Partner overalls pattern because it has the narrowest leg silhouette among workwear-suitable patterns from indie designers. The extra details, such as drawstring waist, elastic straps and big patch pockets seem comfortable for outdoor work.

One interesting thing I noticed while tracing the pattern is that there are no notches, which likely caused me to sew the wrong leg pieces together—not once, but twice.

Another odd feature is that the pant leg is longer at the inseam than it is at the side seam, and the hem isn't parallel to the centre grainline. I wonder why that is.

Additionally, the front bib is quite wide and doesn’t sit flat. Since the larger size range includes bust darts in the front bib, I think next time I will take out 2 cm from the sides and add darts.

I used midweight stretch denim for these overalls and might have benefited from sizing down, as the finished garment has a looser fit than I prefer. Being a petite woman, I found the Partner overalls to be very long for me; I took out 2.5 cm from the rise, but the front crotch is still uncomfortably long.

Despite these issues, I still like the design of these overalls and will wear them while working in the garden, but next time I need to make some alterations to ensure they fit better.
