New favourite coat

I've had this fabric in my stash for a couple of years because I've been too scared to cut into it.

However, I decided I needed a fancy coat for Christmas parties this year. After all, it's the first Christmas we've been able to celebrate in a while, and I intended to do it right!

As scared as I was, the soothing words of 'learn to sew' plastered on the front of the packet did give me some reassurance (although the level 2 nearly sent me back).

But, I mustered my courage, and whilst screaming internally I cut into my beautiful Belgium faux fur.

Usually I find big 4 patterns lacking in instructions, and whilst this one  wasn't as good as some of the indie designers, the instructions were very clear and full of useful tips to aid along the way.

This coat came together really easily. This is an excellent pattern and I'll defiantly be using it again, because one cannot have too many fur coats, no matter how garish.

I hacked it to add pockets, although a tip for all of you in these covid times. If you do hack pockets and sew them in fur DO NOT put your face masks in them. I did, and quickly regretted it. I had to try and stifle a coughing fit in public when one of the demon hairs got stuck in my throat. I didn't want everyone to think I had the plague, so I had to silently throat rumble whilst my entire respiratory system was in agony! Learn from me.

Anyway, back to the pattern. The fit is perfect, the instructions were great and it's really well drafted. 10/10

The only downside? It looked like there had been a muppet massacre in my sewing room. But it was sooo satisfying to clean up with one of those carpet scraper tools.

If you're wanting to make a fur coat but don't know where to begin, I'd definitely reccomend this pattern. It's not as scary as it looks. This coat also got me free drinks at New Years after I let the bartender and his boyfriend try it on. They both looked stunning and I got lots of free shots, so it's already paying for itself.

Oh yes, also in love with the lining. It's Lady McElroy viscose, and I love that my insides are as pretty as my outs.

Thanks for reading, I  hope this review was helpful.
