Buy the Acton Dress sewing pattern from In the Folds. The Acton is a versatile dress with two bodice options and two skirt options (that are interchangeable), designed for woven fabrics. The bodice is lined, features princess panels for a lovely fit around the bust, and is fastened with an invisible zip. The Acton Dress is beautifully designed and carefully drafted to include many interesting details, making this a very enjoyable sew for confident sewers.

View A features a fitted bodice with a low back and thin shoulder straps. The skirt is A-line and includes (optional) in-seam pockets in the side seams.

View B features a fitted bodice with a racer-back and thin shoulder straps. The skirt is a wrap that can be tied in a number of ways to achieve different silhouettes.

Note: You can add sleeves to your Acton Dress using the Acton Dress Sleeve Expansion (sold separately). The expansion includes two sleeve options: a slightly flared, elbow length sleeve and a three quarter length gathered sleeve with cuff. The expansion is available to purchase here.

Suggested fabrics: The Acton is compatible with a range of different fabrics. Your choice of fabric will govern the silhouette you achieve.

For View A, consider using mid-weight fabrics such as linen, cotton or chambray. For a softer silhouette, consider sateen, silk (crepe de chine or habotai) or viscose (rayon).

For View B, fabrics with good drape will work best. Consider silk or polyester crepe de chine, viscose (rayon) or a lightweight cotton or linen.

For 115 cm (45") wide fabrics in all sizes and 150 cm (60") wide in sizes E-J, the skirt will need to be cut on the cross grain (due to the scale of the pattern pieces). When selecting fabric, be careful to choose a fabric that does not have a directional print and drapes well in both directions.

Fabric requirements:

View A: 115 cm (45") wide fabric: 1.6 - 2.2 m (1.8 - 2.4 yd) // 150 cm (60") wide fabric: 1.3 - 1.8 m (1.5 - 2 yd).

View B: 115 cm (45") wide fabric: 2.4 - 3.7 m (2.7 - 4.1 yd) // 150 cm (60") wide fabric: 1.9 - 2.8 m (2.1 - 3.1 yd).

Sizing: A – J (approx. UK 6 – 26/28). Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.

This pattern is drafted for a B cup bust and a height of 170 cm (5’7″).

Notions: Coordinating thread // View A: 40 cm (16") invisible zip // View B: 50 cm (19") invisible zip.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (64 pages); A0 copy shop pattern (3 sheets). This pattern has layers so you can print just the size(s) you need.

Acton Dress review

This is a great pattern. The interesting style lines mean it will look great even in a solid. The instructions are very detailed and you'll certainly pick up a few skills. To perfect the fit, I guess a toile of the bodice is recommended. I made View A in silk recovered from an old kimono (pictured), and view B linen. I am thinking of making view A again in a silk charmeuse or satin and hack it to full length with a slit.

Acton Dress - In The Folds

This is a fantastic pattern is really is. The instructions for is are amazing and soooo well written you really get your hand held through the process which I really like in a pattern.

The construction was fairly simple for such and unusual cut, the fit for me was spot on and I didn't have to make any adjustments apart from taking a little excess at the bust. I made the dress out of a viscose linen - I think this dress needs some drape andI like the crumpled look of the linen that I've used.

All in all it's 5 * from me!
