Buy the Acton Dress Sleeve Expansion sewing pattern from In the Folds. The Acton Dress Sleeve Expansion adds two sleeve options which enhance the versatility of the original Acton Dress pattern. A new bodice designed for sleeves is provided, which may be mixed and matched with either skirt option from the original Acton Dress.

The dress, designed for woven fabrics, has a lined bodice (with self, contrasting or lining fabric) and a V-neck front. It features princess panels for a lovely fit around the bust, and is fastened with an invisible zip. It’s the perfect dress to take you from day to evening.

View A has a slightly flared, elbow length sleeve, while View B has a three quarter length gathered sleeve with cuff.

Note: This is not a complete pattern. You must already own the original Acton Dress pattern to use this expansion. If you have not yet purchased the original pattern you can do so here.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

Suggested fabrics: The Acton Dress is compatible with a range of fabrics.

For View A, consider using light to mid-weight fabrics such as linen, linen blends, cotton, gauze or chambray. For a softer silhouette, consider sateen, silk (crepe de chine or habotai), viscose or lyocell (rayon). It is suggested that you line the bodice with a lightweight fabric such as rayon, cotton poplin or silk.

For View B, fabrics with good drape will work best. Consider silk or polyester crepe de chine, viscose, lyocell (rayon) or a lightweight cotton, chambray, linen or linen blend. For the bodice lining, you can use the same fabric as the dress, or a lighter-weight option if you prefer.

Note for View B only: For 115 cm (45″) wide fabrics in all sizes and 150 cm (60″) wide fabrics in sizes E-J, the skirt will need to be cut on the cross grain (due to the scale of the pattern pieces). When selecting fabric, be careful to choose a fabric that does not have a directional print and drapes well in both directions. Be sure to check that your fabric does NOT have any stretch in either direction.

Fabric requirements: Lining fabric is required for both styles. You will require more fabric if lengthening.

View A: 115 cm (45″) wide fabric: 1.8 – 2.6 m (2 – 2.8 yd) // 150 cm (60″) wide fabric: 1.4 – 1.9 m (1.6 – 2.1 yd).

View B: 115 cm (45″) wide fabric: 2.9 – 4.2 m (3.2 – 4.6 yd) // 150 cm (60″) wide fabric: 2.6 – 3.8 m (2.9 – 4.2 yd).

Lining: 115 cm (45″) wide fabric: 0.5 – 0.8 m (0.6 – 0.9 yd) // 150 cm (60″) wide fabric: 0.4 – 0.6 m (0.5 – 0.7 yd).

Sizing: A – J (approx. UK 6 – 26/28). Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.

This pattern is drafted for a B cup bust and a height of 170 cm (5’7″).

Notions: Coordinating thread; 50 cm (19″) invisible zip // Gathered sleeve only: 0.1 m (0.1 yd) light to mid-weight fusible interfacing.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (29 pages); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets). This pattern has layers so you can print just the size(s) you need.
